Sanosuke, you *idiot*. Bare hands against a sword? Didn't you learn your lesson after going up against Kenshin? Yes, I know you were trying to protect him. Protect us. But that doesn't change the fact that it was bare hands against a sword...oh, Sano!
Bare hands against a sword. I can see my kodachi blade slicing into your palm, biting into your fingers, when I tried to commit seppuku. The blood gushing onto the blade -- even now, the thought of the pain makes me shudder. Shames me to the deepest part of my being. Memories of your blazing eyes, the cold fury in your voice still make me cry out in the middle of the night.
But you believed in me, even though you had every reason to hate me. Gave me a reason for living. Showed me that it was possible to leave a dark past for a hopeful future. Now, you're protecting me -- oh, I know not *me* for my own sake, but because I'm part of this wonderful group of people you call friends.
It doesn't take very long for trouble to find you, does it? After Katsu's hare-brained ideas, you had to sign up with Yohi and tangle with those pirates. Nearly blew yourself into paradise with that one. Now this.
Your fever had better break soon. Please, you *have* to get through this. I never knew what the phrase "my heart stopped" meant, until the moment when I saw you bleeding all over the dojo, that broken sword buried in your shoulder. A little more, and you would have had a punctured lung, or -- no, I'm not going there -- you're alive now, and that's all that matters.
Once, you held my life in your hands, and saved it for a better day. Now your life is in my hands...and saving it is the least I can do.
