Hi there! Well, this idea just sort of hit me while I was eating breakfast this morning. Please be kind…..
Bertie was making his way up the countless stairs. It had been a long night, between dinner with the family and meeting with Parliament; he had no down time. Just as Bertie was opening the door to his bedroom, he heard something behind him. The king turned around to find his eldest daughter looking up at him with tears in her eyes.
"Lilbet, what are you doing awake at this hour?" Bertie was of course not mad, just surprised.
"I'm so sorry, Papa. But I couldn't sleep." At this point, her face crumpled and she burst into tears.
He instantly hugged his daughter. "It's alright, it's okay."
"I… I had a nightmare." She looked down at the floor, obviously embarrassed.
Bertie kissed the top his daughter's head.
"This is foolish; I'm wasting your time." Lilbet looked into her father's eyes apologetically.
"No, of course not, I always have time for you." Bertie said quietly.
Lilbet looked up. "Really?"
Bertie nodded and hugged her tighter; eventually the child's sobs became quieter and less violent. Lilbet yawned and rubbed her eyes.
"Now, off to bed. I love you." Bertie said comfortingly to his daughter.
"Good night, Papa. I love you too." With that, she slowly made her way to the bedroom. Lilbet's curly hair bounced off her shoulders as she walked away.
Bertie smiled slightly and headed into his own bedroom. People always told him being a father was rewarding. He disagreed. It was very rewarding.
There it is. I hoped you liked my story. Please review!
