Disclaimer: Death Note does not belongs to me…
Summary: A year has passed since this case was assigned, but also a year has passed since the last time he was seen.
This is a mini one shot that came to me some time ago.
Be nice, first translation I make… al least from Spanish to English. By the way, need someone to be my beta reader.
Enjoy.
The only thing I really need.
It was raining outside. I didn't really care, but all the other kids did. Lots of them were sitting on the floor, in front of the chimney, complaining. I ignored them completely and continue to put together my puzzle, waiting for a signal from my men on the Kira case. Roger offered me lots of times before a new house, somewhere to continue my investigation in peace, but I always said no.
And there was a reason for me to stay. And that reason had a name: Matt. I never had told anybody. I never had let anybody notice. But the only reason why I stayed at Wammy's House was to see the redhead, like I had done for more than a year now. Even before this task was assigned to me, I watched him. I looked at the window, and, surprisingly, I saw the gamer sitting on the window's border. His eyes fixated at the raindrops that were falling outside.
Dinner was announced and everyone got out of the living room. But I stayed, and so did he, in complete silence. Many minutes passed by, and when I got my head up from my puzzle, I saw- in front of me- Matt. He was kneeling down and putting a piece of my puzzle in its place.
"I need to talk to someone." He said, without looking at my face.
"Go ahead" I answered, putting another piece in its place.
"Today, a year ago, Mello left the house" Whispered Matt, caressing his hair.
The piece I had on my hand fell, but I got it up quickly, putting it on its place, and the redhead continued talking.
"Is there something wrong with me Near?" I got my head up to look at his eyes, shaking my head. "Then why does it hurt here?" He asked me, putting his hand on his chest, lying down on the floor, with his legs crossed.
I didn't know what to say to him. My mind had all the answers, but my heart was afraid to let them out.
"Why does it hurt so much?" He asked again, turning his head at me "Is it my fault?"
"Matt…" I said, leaving the puzzle, "You are not at fault."
"Near…" He went silent for a few seconds, sighed and kept talking "I need him."
In that instant I felt like something had broke inside of me. "I know," was the only thing I said, without looking at him.
"Matt…" He interrupted me, getting up.
"Near, he is the only thing I really need" I felt silent again. I knew it.
"I don't even like the video games, nothing calls my attention, and everything I see reminds me of Mello." He sighed again, defeated.
"Go look for him then," I told him- with my heart on my hand- "find him and tell him how you feel."
Matt got up and shook his head "I don't even now where to start."
Without another word, he left, leaving me alone with my puzzle.
"Matt" I said to the door, after I watched him go, throwing the puzzle's pieces away "You are the only thing I need."
FIN.
Hope you liked it.
