Sometimes she would mourn her lost innocence. The day she died changed her completely. No one understood what it was like to lose your life in an instant. One moment she was fretting about school and the next moment she was craving blood. To have turned into one of the very creatures your parent hated and spent their entire life fighting, is almost no better than death. She had faced rejection from people in her life but the two people she could count on were her parents. But no longer could she count on them. Discovering what she was, broke her mom and sent her dad into a frenzy of 'fixing' her. The two most important people in her life hated her. Hated the very thing she had become. It didn't matter that inside she was the same girl they had raised. All that mattered was the fact that she had turned into the very creatures that they deplored.
At least her mom had come to terms with it and faced the fact that she was the same person, if not better. But her dad, he was another story. No matter what she did, it didn't redeem her in his eyes. He still thought she was an abomination. An abomination he loved, until his last breath. It almost broke her but she is stronger than that. Constant rejection had added a layer of toughness to her. She battled with her insecurities and the dark thoughts that plagued her mind, taunting her that she would never be good enough. She was no longer the same person. She lost her innocence the day she took that man's life, drinking his blood like an elixir. All she had left were her friends who accepted her no matter what. And him.
He suffered the same problems that she did. Rejection from his parents, although they took it to a new level by trying to kill him. Wanting to be loved and having to force people to love him. But he understood her. Understood the loss of innocence and faith. Instead of seeing her insecurities and dark thoughts as weaknesses, he saw it as strength of character, that no matter what she was going through, there she was standing strong and taking care of everyone. She was beautiful and full of light in his eyes.
He had fallen to the very depths of hell, lost in his hunger for power at the cost of everything. Taking risks without another thought to the lives he destroyed and the fact that it was destroying him in the process. He was almost the cause of her death. But one look at her and he entranced with the light that emanated from her. Even lying on her death bed she stood strong. He knew she would be his saviour. She would save him from the depths of hell, from the destruction he was causing and most of all from himself. And she did. With every passing day he spends with her, she saves him bit by bit.
They understand each other and the loneliness that haunts them, but they get through it as long as they have each other. It took them time to move past the history they had, but it happened. In the end, they had each other.
