Dance
The music begins
My heart pounding in time to the music
Boom, boom… like my heart itself has been replaced with a drum
I take the first step onto the stage
Hundreds of eyes staring
I take a breath and slide my foot
So now I face those eyes
My body moves to the beat
No thinking needed now
The music flows through my body
And I forget to be afraid
Before I know it, it is over
Seeming to last only seconds
But those seconds were filled with joy
