His hands were shaking and he shoved them into the pockets of his tuxedo, but the shaking did not escape Sharon's eyes. She wanted to hold his hand and soothe him, but since both of his hands were in his pockets, she had to settle for a wide and warmhearted smile instead.
"Why are you smiling?" he asked.
"A smile can brighten up your day," she replied and wanted to smack her own head for sounding so stupid. "Besides, I think that it's okay for you to be nervous about giving your daughter away."
"Nervous doesn't even come close to what I'm feeling right now," Andy admitted and Sharon's smile softened.
"Are you going to cry?" She tried to keep her tone only half serious.
"Oh, my God, here she is," he said as he noticed Nicole coming out of a room right behind Sharon in her wedding gown. Sharon turned around with a barely-audible relieved sigh.
"She is beautiful, Andy," she said and could feel the excitement radiating off Andy's body. Her children were not married, but she was sure that she would flood the church with tears at their weddings.
"What do I do?" He looked at her helplessly.
"You go over there and hug her," Sharon urged him. "I'm sure she'll be thrilled to see you. Don't worry."
"Come with me," he said.
"Of course," She looked at him with half a smile and she could only wish that when her children get married, their father would be kind enough to grace them all with his presence. "Do you need a hand?" she opened her palm and he took it with gratitude. She gave it a little squeeze and smiled at him as they walked towards Nicole, who was accompanied by two bridesmaids and her mother.
"Daddy!" Nicole's eyes lighted up when she saw him. She wrapped her arms around him. "I'm so glad you made it after all." It took Andy a moment to release Sharon's hand and wrap his arms around his daughter's thin waist.
"Look at you," he said once she pulled away from him. "My little girl; I can't believe how fast the years passed." Tears started streaming from Nicole's eyes and Sharon pulled a tissue from her purse and sneaked it into Andy's hand, giving his arm a gentle push. Andy brought the tissue to Nicole's face and gently wiped the tears, trying his best not to ruin her makeup.
"I'm happy to see you, Dad," Nicole smiled and took the tissue. "Who's your date?" Andy's fingers came around Sharon's hand again and he gently ushered her forward.
"Nicole, this is my friend Sharon Raydor," he introduced her. "Sharon, this are my daughter Nicole and her mother, Grace." Sharon shook their hands and congratulated them.
"It's nice to meet you, Sharon." Nicole said and smiled at her. Grace seemed to be more reserved, but not impolite.
"Well, now that you are here, I guess we should go and take our seats. Adam will be here momentarily." Grace said, "Be nice to him, will you, Andy?"
"Sharon, can I talk to you for just a moment?" Andy did not dignify his ex-wife with a reply.
"Excuse us," Sharon said and they stepped aside.
"I just wanted to thank you for coming here with me. It means a lot." Andy said, "And I don't think I told you, but you look lovely in this dress." Sharon's face flushed a little and Andy thought it made her look even better. "And if Grace gives you any troubleā¦"
"Don't worry about it, Andy. I know how to get along with pretty much anybody." Sharon grinned. Her hands crept up his chest and settled under his neck, fixing his tie.
"That you do." Andy smiled. Sharon fixed his pocket square and then pressed her lips to his cheek, careful not to leave traces of her lipstick on his skin. "I'll see you in a bit," Andy said, doing his best to hide his surprise. She nodded and started walking towards their seats.
"Oh, and Andy?" She turned to face him once again. "I know it's very tempting, but please try not to tear Adam into pieces. I'd hate to arrest you."
