Kyra sat alone in her bedroom looking out her window tears filling her eyes. She didn't know when her life got so gray and dismal, nor did she know what caused it. What she did know is that she hated her life and she didn't know why. On the outside nothing was wrong, but inwardly there was a hole in her heart. She didn't even want to get out of bed in the morning.

It wasn't more then 3 months ago that nothing bothered her. She let everything slide off her back like water off a duck. Now it was a struggle to get out of bed in the morning. Some days she would pretend she was sick just to get out of going to school. She didn't want to leave the house.

Kyra would feel physically sick at the idea of opening her eyes in the morning. She often complained of headaches, stomachaches and severe nausea. She cried at everything. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't notice a knock at the door. She didn't notice until her mother was in her room and sitting down on her bed.

"Kyra?"

"Hey mom, what's up?"

"That's what I want to know. You seem… upset lately"

"Oh mom," Kyra said and burst into tears.

Kyra broke down and told her everything.

"Oh Kyra…"

"Mom, I don't know what I did to cause this but I have no pleasure anymore. Sometimes I don't even want to be alive"

"Honey I'm no psychiatrist," Reba said, "but it sounds like you're suffering from something called depression."

"What did I do to cause it"

"Kyra listen to me," Reba said gently but firmly, "you did nothing to cause it. It is a chemical imbalance in your brain. The only think you did wrong is you didn't come to us sooner about this"

"So what do I do now," Kyra asked, "I can't fix it"

"No you can't. Kyra you have a disease. You need a specific doctor called a psychiatrist. We'll find one for you as soon as possible… we'll start looking tomorrow sweetie"

"Thanks mom," Kyra gave her mom a hug, "I love you"

"I love you too sweetheart," Reba said, "always have and I always will"

"Mom, I'm scared"

"That's okay because I'm scared too, but we'll get through this together," Reba told her daughter.
