This super short piece just sorta popped in my head the other night. It's the first thing I've ever written for He-Man, but I've been a fan for a very long, long time.

Old Man Adam

There was a time when he hated the rain. But now he welcomes it as he looks out over the valley he calls home. In his hand rests a modest cup, while behind him a fire crackles in his dwelling place. He sips the berry drink slowly, allowing its bitter sting to tantalize his tongue.

Overhead a lone dragon flaps its majestic wings and soars among the stars. In the distance, deep within the woods that stand guard behind his loft, the unmistakable howl of a silver wolf cries out for its mate to return home.

There was a time when he would have cursed the rain for ruining a pleasant fall evening. But now he finds comfort in its gentle descent. By his side rests his only living friend, a most peculiar green-skinned cat with a touch of nervousness forever racing through its veins. Its coat of fur has dulled over the years and most of his once pristine teeth have lost their way. The soft breeze blowing up over the damp meadow flowers has lured the once mighty feline to sleep.

There was a time when he wished the rain away. But that was when he was young and battled all sorts of evil men and demons. Back when he was in love with a beautiful warrior woman and was proud to play the role of hero. When he lived in a grand kingdom and sought to protect the secrets of an ancient and magical castle. Sometimes when the moon is full, on a night like this one, he can catch a glimpse of what once was.

There was a time when he hated the rain.

But that time has long since passed.
