Disclaimer: (le sigh)

Author's Note: Since Twilight parody songs seem to be popular nowadays, I thought I'd give it a go. Not that mine's funny… at least, I hope not, 'cause that would mean I suck at writing lyrics. This is a Twilight remake to the tune of "If I Can't Love Her" from the Beauty and the Beast musical. I've always loved this song for Edward… Those of you who know this song will recognize how much I love it for Edward, because the two refrains are very nearly untouched. Eh heh… what can I say? If it fits, it fits…

Timeline: Very beginning of New Moon.

Warnings: Not my most impressive work, but hopefully still enough to make you smile.

If I Can't Save Her

XXX

And in my golden eyes

Full of bloodlust and lies

I see no hinting of my lost humanity

And in my tortured heart

I see her ripped apart

A fear I know some day could be reality

X

Broken

As her life drains

As her eyes fade

In my cruel illusion

Strengthened

By this vision

Cold and driven

I reach this set conclusion…

X

No beauty could move me

No goodness improve me

No power on earth, if I can't save her

No passion could reach me

No lesson could teach me

Now I will protect her, though it means I must go

Be safe now that you are alone

X

It breaks my heart, this sacrifice!

But for your life I'll pay this price!

With a final lie I tell you good-bye…

X

No pain could be deeper!

No life could be cheaper!

No point anymore, if I can't save her

No spirit could win me!

No hope left within me!

Hope's all that I have now that I've set her free

Keep her safe, God, please

If I can't save her

Let the world me done with me!
