Heyyy! I've returned! All right, I've decided to try a romance fic. Enjoy!

P.S: This takes place during volume 10 of the manga.

"How is he?" Riza asked the doctor.

"He's lost a fair amount of blood, but he'll live," he replied. "So will his subordinate, but he might suffer some permanent spinal damage."

"May I go see them?"

The doctor hesitated. "Well, we usually don't allow it…but since you're so close, I guess we can make an exception. Just don't disturb them."

Riza nodded.

Riza silently slipped into the dark room. She could see the dim outline of Lieutenant Havoc, almost unrecognizable without a cigarette in his mouth.

In the other bed, Roy mustang was sprawled out asleep. Riza had never approached her commanding officer this way. It felt awkward.

She sat down on the edge of the bed and stayed there for a few minutes, watching his muscular chest rise and fall. He's so freaking selfless sometimes, she thought, glancing at his injuries from today's previous fight.

What about you? Said a voice in Riza's head. You were almost willing to die when you thought he was killed. Roy would probably yell at her for it later, too. She sighed, stroking his hair with one finger. What makes you do that for someone? And- would he do it for me? Roy wasn't even supposed to be on the battlefield. If it had been her, would he-

Riza shook her head, clearing her mind. She couldn't be thinking like this. She was Lt. Riza Hawkeye, A woman with nerves of steel, and deadly with a gun. She needed to be strong.

I have a duty, she thought. To myself, to the military- she looked back at Roy. –And to my comrades. Riza leaned in so she was an inch from his face.

"I won't let anything happen," she promised. "to either of us."

Then, before she knew what she was doing, she kissed him gently on the cheek.

The colonel stirred slightly in his sleep. "Lieutenant?" he mumbled.

Riza drew back in embarrassment, and dashed out of the room.

Roy relaxed again, and went back to sleep, with a peaceful smile on his face.
