Foolish Games

Dr Allison Cameron was not a woman whom you associated with the fine arts such as singing or playing the piano. She was beautiful and intelligent to be sure but no one wouldtake her for a musician. But that was all about to change one fateful afternoon in Princeton.

"Dr Cameron?" A young girl of twelve tugged on Cameron's lab coat in the recreation room which was filled with children of all ages.

"Yes Mandy?' Cameron smiled back at her.

"We're bored. Can you play a song for us?"

Cameron hesitated. It had been years since she had played but she shrugged her shoulders and said, "Of course."

She sat at the piano and tried to think of a song to play. Dozens of compilations flew through her mind but one song in particular stood out and matched her mood that day.

Her hands flew over the keys while a pair of icy blue eyes watched her from the entry of the room.

You took your coat off and stood in the rain.

You're always crazy like that.

I watched from my window, always felt I was outside

Looking in on you

She sang softly, yet letting emotion pour into every word.

You were always the mysterious one with

Dark eyes and careless hair you were

Fashionably sensitive but too cool to care.

You stood in my doorway, with nothin to say

Besides some comment on the weather

That last line was sung with a hint of bitterness but no one noticed it, save one.

Well in case you failed to notice, in case you failed to see.

This is my heart, bleeding before you.

This is me down on my knees.

Heartache and loneliness ripped through her as she found the high notes and tried not to let a tear slip.

And these foolish games are tearing me apart.

And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart.

You're breaking my heart...

You're always brilliant in the morning

You're smoking your cigarettes

And talking over coffee.

Your philosophies on art, Baroque moved you, you loved Mozart.

And you speak of your loved ones

As I clumsily strum my guitar.

Well excuse me! Cameron threw herself into the vocals of the song with incredible force

Cause I've mistaken you for somebody else.

Somebody who gave a damn, somebody more like myself.

And these foolish games are tearing me you're, tearing me, you're tearing me apart.

And your thoughtless words are breaking my heart...

She paused and gasped when she saw House standing not more than ten feet away. But she found her strength and finished the song.

You're breaking my heart.

You took your coat off and stood in the rain.

You're always crazy like that.

Everyone applauded. Cameron gave a mock bow & a fake smile and made sure that she didn't cry after unintentionally revealing something personal about herself, not in front of him.

"I didn't know you sung." His gruff voice echoing over the top of her head.

"There's a lot that you don't know about me." With that, she stood up and walked out of the room, leaving House with a quizzical but intrigued expression.
