I awoke right at the sound of a particularly loud thunder strike, my young mind terrified by the sound, I chose to seek solace in the comfort of my parents' room. Getting up blearily, I wiped the sand from my eyes and noticed my throat was a bit parched, so deciding to ask them for a drink took priority over asking them if I could sleep in their room. Opening my door, I heard shouting coming from the living room, which was odd as they are what you would describe as a "perfect couple", with almost no altercations between the two. I shuffled slowly down the hallway before peeking my head into the dark room, lit only by a lamp and the occasional thunder strike, even with the poor lighting I could see my mother crying. They were arguing and it began to grow steadily louder, until in erupted into a full blown screaming match.
There was almost no warning besides a light breeze, after which my world went white and I realized I had smacked the furthest wall, rattling my ribs and shaking my brain leaving me confused and disoriented. I looked up through blurry eyes, slowly blinking to clear my focus. As my vision was clearing, I noticed that the whole front half of the house was gone. Panic set in, standing abruptly despite the pain throughout my body, I rushed forward stumbling more than a few times. Lying in the center of a small crater where our living room and front porch had been was my mother, bloody and not breathing.
This surprised me, knowing my mother was strong if the morning news was anything to go by. I saw a figure standing above her prone form, as if it was some ironic twisted moment of fate, the thunder crashed again, lighting the figure more a brief few seconds. Though those few seconds were more than enough to show me my mother's killer. My father, Kaze Tatsumaki. His face was full of grim resolution, he was speaking down to her. I could hear gasping, like someone was trying to breathe through a wet paper bag.
I stumbled towards the crater, tears flowing down my face as I hiccupped, there was a lot of blood, too much for a child. He was injured himself, steam coming from a fist sized hole in his chest, but honestly, I couldn't care less about him. He looked at me, mouthing words, but everything was drowned out by white noise and I could only focus on my dying mother. Passing out from shock, I could see the smile resting upon her pale face.A hand rested upon my shoulder, almost dwarfing it with the size of the palm. I knew I was supposed to find comfort in this action, but I could only think on how unfair it was.
I stared at the freshly dug grave of my mother, silent tears stung at my eyes and slid down my cheeks, I was so focused on the tombstone that I barely noticed the hand leave my shoulder. Standing for a time, I came to realize I was alone with my thoughts. One kept surfacing, revenge. The thought of my father being free angered my small body. Letting one last tear trail down my face, I spun around and stomped away. The need for revenge clouding my mind and leaving me an angry mess.
Timeskip now
I looked out the window as was the usual routine I took to doing in class. The lessons were easy, though if there were harder material I'd just ask Deku for help. He was a scrawny boy of below average height and had a head of green hair making him kind of look like moss. Though he was average, there were two things that stuck him out from others. He was quite intelligent, and he was quirkless. Speaking of which I could see him huddled over his desk muttering and scribbling away at his notebook. The teacher entered the room leading me to glance at the forgettable man and look away again.
"Congratulations kids, today is your last day of middle school. Now I have some career application forms for you to fill out," he paused dramatically to gauge our reactions before continuing "but that doesn't matter because you're all going into heroics! So, we don't need to worry about those." He smiled widely as he threw the papers behind him.
Before the chatter could even really begin, a loud and arrogant voice cut through everyone,
"Hey, teach! Don't lump me together with these extras! They're nothing compared to me!" I rolled my eyes at this, before snorting.
'Pretentious asshole' was the only thought that I cared to give him
"Ah, Bakugo! You applied for UA didn't you? I'm sure you'll get in, though you aren't the only one to have applied, Izuku and Hikari applied as well."
I mentally groaned, and I think I heard Izuku actually groan under his breath. I don't blame him honestly. I could feel the room eating up a bit, and at the sound of popping I let my own hand crackle with electricity in preparation. It turns out that my preparation wasn't warranted after all, as he chose to focus only on poor Deku.
"Oi Deku, what do you think you're doing huh? You think a quirkless idiot like yourself can become a hero? Are you looking down on me bastard?" after saying this he grabbed Izuku's notebook before an explosion went off, after which he threw the burnt notebook out of an open window. "If so, why don't you go take a swan dive off of the roof, you might be lucky and have a quirk in the next life."
Izuku's form slumped in his seat with a sigh of defeat. Then, Bakugo turned his attention onto me, leaving me to start up the electricity again, he stomped his way towards me trying his best to look menacing. I slowly tensed up and pushed my seat back ever so slowly.
"Oi bastard, who do you think you are huh?! I am the only one who should be going to UA from this shitty underfunded school? Are you trying to stop my path to becoming number one? Don't get in my way or-"I cut him off before he could finish,
"Kill me? Of course you'd say that Bakugo, you're a one trick pony you extra. Not to mention that your chances of becoming number one is as low as a dead person's, especially with the stick up your ass." I somehow managed to say this with a straight face, though it almost broke at the scowl on his face growing larger after each word said.
His hands glowed as small explosions popped off into the air, in response I slowly stood from my seat, my body beginning to glow as sparks flew around me. As the tension was about to spill and a fight spark, the bell rang signifying the end of the class and our time in middle school. He huffed before muttering bastard underneath his breath, and walking out of the classroom. I looked at the retreating blonde, before I focused on Deku. Who looked absolutely crushed, I felt a small amount of pity for him. Walking towards him as he was shuffling out of the room, I offered to walk him home which he politely declined.
I left the school and decided to take the longer way to my apartment, the altercation with Bakugo leaving me with some irritation to walk off. As I was walking I noticed a commotion with a bunch of heroes and citizens crowding around some yellow tape. I could hear the panicked voices of the heroes and the worried whispers of the citizens. I drew closer, and the sound of explosions grew clearer, I thought Bakugo had finally snapped. I worked my way through the crowd in a flurry of pardon me and sorry, before coming to the front behind the heroes. I looked over to my right and saw a flash of green and brown.
"Hey kid! Come back!" I could hear Kamui Woods shout out.
Wondering what he was doing I looked up, and saw Deku throwing his backpack at a sludge villain, after which he began crying while smiling? He desperately clawed at the sludge, but it didn't give. When all hope seemed to be lost and as I was about to go myself, All Might appeared. Shock filled me at seeing him. What was All Might doing in this city? Though this town wasn't unknown or anything, it was certainly surprising. All Might said something to Deku before blasting the sludge monster with one punch, which was so strong that it altered the weather from the sunny day to cloudy, which ultimately began to rain. Annoyed that I was getting soaked, the annoyance I was feeling was overshadowed by the sheer strength he showed.
I again worked my way through the crowd, which was now becoming even bigger with a mixture of journalists, and citizens who wanted to see All Might up close. I grunted as the people tried their hardest to push through me to get to the action. Eventually I pushed myself through the oncoming crowd with a gasp. Hunched over on my knees I tried to breathe after the unexpected exercise. Deciding I had had enough fun for the day, I continued on towards my apartment. After reaching my house, I closed the door with a sigh before taking off my shoes.
"I'm home." I said to the empty house as if expecting a reply.
Trudging through the house, I realized how tired I was which is weird considering I didn't do anything. May have been the adrenaline rush after seeing All Might. Plopping down on my couch I turned the t.v on, and switched on over to the news. Everywhere I looked, they were stories on All Might, and the boy who recklessly charged in to confront the villain to save his "friend". I snorted at that, Bakugo had no friends. He only saw people as below him, or as a challenge to his dream to become number one. Yawning, I decided to skip dinner and go to bed. Turning off the television, I walked into the bedroom. Stopping in the hallway, I looked at the calendar and saw the outlined date. Ten months from now, would be the UA exam.
