"Spock!

Spock!

Hey Spock!!"

The newly appointed captain of the Star Ship Enterprise raced through the hallways of his ship, almost knocking over several flustered cadets. Jim Kirk silently cursed the distance from the bridge to the transportation pads and wordlessly prayed to no one in particular that he could go just a bit faster. As he got to the teleportation room the captain almost collided with the automatic door when it didn't open fast enough.

"Scotty! The pads are ready? Take me to where ever the hell Spock ended up."

A red shirt squeaked "Err…..I'm sorry captain, sir, but the chief engineer isn't here right now. Would you like me to call him?"

"No time. Beam me to Spock's exact last coordinates immediately." Kirk said stepping into place on the pad.

"But-….Yes captain. Sir." The red shirt replied, deciding it was easier not to attempt to argue with the stubborn captain. Captain Kirk let the familiar tickling feeling of the transporter overwhelm him as he was beamed down to the desert planet.

The planet was indeed desert, as they had been informed, - Jim Kirk looked around and saw nothing but sand and huge red rocky landforms. Spock was not insight, which Kirk took instantly as a bad sign; if he had been beamed down to Spock's exact coordinates and Spock wasn't here, then it meant he must be running and the captain knew he was no match for Vulcan speed. However, it was almost night fall and 'logically' Spock would make camp or something wouldn't he? Despite the immense heat of the desert planet Kirk set off at a run, hoping that he got to his first officer before something else did.

Within four minutes of Kirk setting off to run he started to get a bad feeling. He hadn't turned to look back yet- to busy with the task at hand- but the fast approaching sand storm certainly wasn't going to be doing him any favours. Though he reasoned that it would be somewhat different for the planet's natives. As Kirk ran he wondered if, no, hoped, that Spock would work out that the planet was in fact, not as lifeless as their scans had told them, and that he wouldn't have to find out the hard way.

Then it happened; captain Kirk saw one of the creatures he was hoping to avoid. From what he could see it looked fairly similar to a human, however with more hair and several long, coloured tentacles coming from it's back. The captain couldn't decide if it was a good thing that the creature obviously hadn't seen him- it was certainly in a hurry and Kirk had a feeling that wouldn't be a good thing for his first in command.
