The explosion sent ripples through the water. The movement could be felt far away, a subtle shift in the current easily detected by the predator. The smell of blood blanketed the water, sending it toward the wreck. A few miles easily traveled with the strong sway of its tail and the tilt of its fins. There was still movement in the water, farther away though and not worth the effort. The blood was here. Its sensitive nose hit a chunk of flesh. Its large jaws opened to collect whatever it was. It didn't care, its beady eyes gleamed with the flames of the wreck. It swam in circles collecting everything in its way. Gills flaring, breathing in the bloody waters. If it could have emotion it would have been exhilarated. But only the animalistic need to eat was being quenched. Its eyes revealed no emotion, but seemed to dance in the flames. An illusion of thought. It turned again, swimming deeper. There was blood there too; but it smelled different. It was close to the ocean floor. A body floated just above the bottom; at least part of it. The skin was cold and pale with death, with a mummified look to it from the refracted light coming from above. The predator didn't think though. It knew only to do a few things. Eat was the main one. It scooped the rest of the biologist into its mouth. Like it had finished erasing his existence. The silver animal stayed for a while; believing there to be more food with the lingering scent of blood. The fires had burned out, and the sun had shifted out of the sky. Leaving the ebony of darkness to smear the sky. The beady eyes were empty once more. There was another shift in the water; further away. The mindless creature took toward its new course, bringing it toward land.
