Slipped Away

Disclaimer: I don't own digimon, Kodak, or anything else but this plot, especially Avril Lavigne's "Slipped Away."

Daisuke watched in horror as his partner slowly and painfully deleted. This was all his fault-if he hadn't charged straight on into battle, he wouldn't have been attacked;therefore, Veemon wouldn't have had risked his life to save him.

'No, I can't think like that...but...'

Distant memories arose to Daisuke-when he got his digivice, met Veemon, retrieved the digimentals of Courage and Friendship, the list was endless. It all lead up to that very moment, when Veemon, injured and weak, fell to his death. Sure, he was coming back-but who knows when? It might take years, maybe too long for Daisuke to ever see him again. His eyes started to water;no, he wouldn't cry, he had to be strong. Yet how could he?

In the distance, Miyako, Takeru, Iori, Hikari, and Ken watched, speechless. Takeru and Ken knew how Daisuke felt, but couldn't build up the courage to speak-after all, he was about to face a roller coaster of emotions;who knows how he might respond. There was utter silence for a few seconds, while each of them concluded their thoughts...

Hikari:'Poor Veemon! He didn't deserve that. I wonder how Daisuke will take this...'

Iori:'This is almost how my father died...saving the life of another...'

Miyako:'VEEMON!!!COME BACK! YOU CAN'T LEAVE US!!!!'

Ken:'Daisuke...whatever happens, we'll be here for you...'

Takeru:'Why? Why must we keep loosing friends? It doesn't seem fair...'

Meanwhile, Daisuke was breaking inside as realization hit him(and hard)-He was gone...And he was never coming back. A tear dropped...then another. Slowly and gracefully, drops of salty water dripped of Daisukes face. He started sobbing, and pretty soon caught the attention of his friends. All of them looked sympathetically towards him, and some were surprised-they had never know their leader to get this upset. Ken walked slowly toward Daisuke and hugged him. Miyako and Iori followed, then Hikari and Takeru. If you looked at the moment, you might have found it touching, like a Kodak moment. Yet they were all troubled as Daisuke held on to his friends for support-his life would never be the same...

- if possible, cue Avril Lavigne's "Slipped Away" -
