Jack, thy beauty is to me

As those wide-sailed ships of yore

Which boldly, o'er an untamed sea,

A brave and clever searcher bore

From his own native shore

On treasured seas long wont to roam.

Thy elfish face, thy beaded mane,

Thy storied skin have dreams unfurled

Of voyages to tropic isles

And pirate gold from bygone worlds.

Against the obstacles unknown

How laughing-eyed we see thee stand,

The agile sword within thy hand,

Ah! Sun-bronzed nyad, of that realm

Beyond all land!
