Nathan's heart ached as he listened to howls. He knew his brothers were right about Josiah, but still he hurt to have to turn his back on his oldest and dearest friend. He threw his head back and howled. Josiah's answering howl brought tears to Nathan's eyes. He howled again.
Josiah's next howl sounded closer, but then Nathan heard a soft whistling. Vin walked around the left side of the house, carrying his mare's leg loaded with silver bullets. Chris came from the right, sharpening a stake.
Nathan's and Chris' eyes locked. Nathan snarled and stomped back into the house.
