Going through my google drive because I have about 5 unpublished stories on there that I am slowly going through and editing on this very snowy snow day. This is just a short one-shot in Jane's POV that I thought that I would post first. Feel free to review and let me know what you think. I do not own any of this characters. Trigger Warning for miscarriage.

You wake up suddenly and know that something is not right. Slowly you start to fully wake up and you feel what initially woke you up. The stabbing pain in your lower abdomen alerts you that something is wrong and that you need to get to a hospital immediately. Just then your phone starts to vibrate and you look over and automatically answer it thinking that it might be work. On the other end you hear the voice of your best friend asking you what's wrong. The two of you have always shared a special bond and you never need to be in the same room to know that something was off. It is at that moment that you a grateful to have a best friend like that. It is also at that moment that you feel another sharp pain and you cry out.

It is then that you tell Maura about the pain and that you need to go to the hospital immediately. She tells you to stay still and that she will be there in 10 minutes. You tell her not to hang-up and to stay on the phone with you. She speaks to you softly reassuring you that she is on her way and is going to help you through this and make sure the baby is okay. The whole time you lay still on your bed like she requested. Silently crying and wishing that you had taken her up on her offer to stay at her house. Ever since you told her you were pregnant she has kept a watchful eye on you, made sure you ate properly, took you to the doctors, and reminded you to take your vitamins. As much as you act like you hate it, you secretly love that she cares about you and the baby so much that she goes to the extent that she is with your pregnancy.

Ten minutes later you hear her enter your apartment while quietly calling your name. You try to tell her that you are in your room, but another stab to your abdomen happens all you can do is let out a sob. In an instant she is in your room at your side, pushing back the hair on your forehead and turning on a light. It is at that moment she notices the blood on the sheets. She gasps and pulls you up to a sitting position telling you that you need to go to the hospital. She somehow gets you to change your clothes and leads you to her car, all the while supporting your weight entirely. Before getting into the car you pull her into a tight hug and thank her for being there for you. She responds by softly kissing your cheek and placing you into the car.

A fifteen minute drive and you find yourself at the entrance to the emergency room at the maternity ward of the hospital. Ten minutes after that you are in an exam room with a nurse and a doctor. The nurse is taking your vitals, your best friend is filling out your paperwork, and the doctor is doing an ultrasound and asking Maura questions about your pain and the amount of blood loss. Since entering the room you have not been able to speak and have done nothing but stare at the hand in yours. The hand of your best friend who has not let go since getting to the hospital. You know that she is as afraid as you are. Afraid that you are going to lose your baby just when you had started getting excited about the idea of becoming a mother.

Five minutes later and the doctor looks at your sadly. She shakes her head at tells you that she is sorry for your loss. After that everything slows down. You begin to shake, cry, and scream. Maura quickly throws her bag on the floor, climbs on the exam table, and wraps you up in her arms. She is holding your tightly, rocking you back and forth, and whispering words of comfort into your ear. Words that no one but you can hear. The doctor slowly exits the room, leaving you being held by your best friend as you cry. You cry for your mother, who you know will be deeply sadden with this news. You cry for your best friend who has taken all her time to help you prepare for this baby. You cry for your brothers because they will never get the chance to meet this baby. But most of all, you cry for the loss of your child that you will never meet. That you will never get a chance to watch grow, to send off to preschool, to watch them graduate college, or get married. So you sit in the hospital room, in the arms of your best friend, someone who has come to mean so much to you, and cry for what never will be. All the while she holds you and tells you that she will help you get through this, you just have to take baby steps, but you will come out stronger than you were to start. It is at that moment that you are thankful for your best friend and your life, but for now you sit in that hospital room, on the exam table curled into your best friend, and mourn the loss of your unborn child.
