James sat in the common room staring into the depths of the dying fire. He couldn't believe what had just happened only a few hours earlier. Everything had been going great. He had just presumably aced his Defense Against the Dark Arts O.W.L. Remus was fairly healthy, Sirius was as loyal as ever, and Peter was just, Peter. One minute he was simply enjoying life, and the next, things were turned upside down. Literally. How had it all gone so wrong?

James rubbed a hand down his face and groaned as a crushing feeling settled over him. That was it, Lily Evans would never forgive him for what he had caused. She would forever hate him, any hope of going out with her was gone. If only he could go back in time and fix it. Make sure Snape never said… that he never called her a… It was so infuriating! How could he call her that? She had thought of Snape as her friend, had defended him to the last, and look what happened. James had always known Severus Snape was a slimy git who didn't deserve to even know Lily Evans, let alone be her friend. But he had never thought that Snape would cause Lily so much pain.

He was snapped out of his reverie by the sound of a dormitory door squeaking open and quiet footsteps coming across the room. He turned around and saw Lily Evens frozen in the middle of the room, tears running down her face. James stood and said as sincerely as possible, "Lily, I am so sorry. I didn't mean for that to happen. I…" He stopped talking when she began sobbing.

"I hate you James Potter." She said between hiccups, and then ran back through the door from which she came, leaving James alone in the common room again. He sank to his knees with the realization of what had just occurred, rested his head on the couch cushion, and closed his eyes.

When he opened them, it was still night time, but he was laying in a bed, miles away from the place he had been dreaming about. He felt a hand on his shoulder and looked over at the green eyes peering worriedly back at him.

"James, what's the matter? You were tossing around." He relaxed as his wife's voice surrounded him, and he pulled her tightly into his embrace.

"I was just dreaming Lily Love." He kissed her forehead and sighed. "Don't worry, it's in the past."

He laid like that until he was sure Lily was asleep again, then rubbed his hand over his face as he had so many years earlier, and thanked whatever Gods there were that Lily had decided to love him after all.

Author's Note: I do not own any of the characters. J. k. Rowling does. This was my first attempt at fan fiction, so please tell me if I can fix anything. Reviews would be lovely. And if everyone who reviews would go to www . freerice . com and earn a few grains of rice for the hungry by answering multiple choice vocab questions, it would be really awesome. If you do, then please tell me in the review. Thanks a Bunch!
