A/N: This is from Mokka Week (MollyxAikka) with the theme of "good luck". The inspiration came from a line from a St. Patrick's Day long ago, on The Daily Show, and it's made me laugh for a long time.
Tokens of Good Luck
Spring had been kind to the field outside of her school. Although clovers and weeds outgrew grass in the outfield, it still looked green and pretty and lush. Eva bent down looking at the new plants, looking for a particular species. A bucket, taken from ages past, sat by her side. Soon it will carry the gift she had picked for the Prince.
"Aha!" Before her was the bounty she was looking so hard for.
*
The Wei house was unusually quiet. Outside, the sky seemed to threaten rain with a few grey clouds. Sitting by a bay window was a most unusual character. He had long elfin ears and bright blue eyes. His hair had been done up a trail of red topknots. The Prince gave out a sigh as he looked at the square digital interface on the wall across from him. The notion of time in human terms, from the o'clock to seconds was most alien to Aikka's own; however he could tell that Eva was late.
Where she could be now, he asked himself.
Then outside, as a few sprinkles hit the window he saw her carrying a bucket at her side, trying to shield herself from the down pour. He stood up from his seat and ran up to the front door as she came in tossing off her coat to a hook on the wall. She smiled as she hugged the bucket to her.
"Come over to the table, Aikka" she said.

A bright green plastic bucket landed on the Wei's table in the brightly lit dining room. Aikka sat up, his elbows on the wooden surface as Eva beamed.
"I do not think I understand," he said looking into the depths of the bucket. "What are those?"
"They're shamrocks," said Eva pulling out one three leaf clover.
He looked at her with a quizzical look, imploring her to explain.
"They're a symbol of good luck," she said, twirling the lone clover in between two fingers. "So I decided to give you some, seeing that you'll be in a race tomorrow."
Aikka smiled and took the clovers. The race scheduled for tomorrow was to be on Earth. The first time, perhaps ever there would be a race between Nourasia and Earth on Earth… Somehow that seemed redundant. Too bad she wasn't racing the Prince. That had made her more than a little upset to find out some hot-shot from the Major Leagues was going to race against the Prince. She had forgotten the name in hindsight, something fake she suspected, like Wild, Wind, West something.
"Thank you for this token of good luck, I will wear one of these… herbs are they?" he asked.
Eva started and woke from her little memory trip as soon as she heard Aikka's voice.
"Herb? No I think it might be a weed, I think?" she said, examining the shamrock in her hand. "Or it's a kind of grass. Strange, they never explain what a shamrock is, at least in my knowledge."
Aikka examined the clovers in bucket and suddenly thought back on something.
"You have a race tomorrow as well, right?" he asked. Eva knew she did, but before she could answer him, the Prince took off in a sprint to the guest room her father had set up for him during his stay on Earth. Moments later he came back, this time carrying a bowl of what looked like a red and purplish plant or flower. As he set it down on the table, Eva gave it a good look over. It looked like a bizarre cross between a clover flower and a dandelion.
"What, what is that?" she asked.
"On my planet, we consider this to be a good luck token," said Aikka. "Some people consider it more of a pest though."
Eva looked at the plant and then to the bucket of clovers she had picked out for Aikka. A goofy grin came over her face as she realized what she had done.
