A/N I got this idea last night when re-watching Death Note for the thousandth time. At one point, when Light's sister is kidnapped, he starts yelling at Misa and I noticed that for a brief moment, she looked kind of…scared…
It also reminded me of when he mentioned at some point that when Misa tackled him in a hug, it was the first time in his life he had ever been provoked to hit a woman (in the English dub; I watch both).

I had to create a whole new story because this doesn't really fit in with any of my other drabble fics. Oh and I think this could be considered trigger-warning, so warning for domestic violence told in a negative light (no pun intended). Actually, yeah, pun intended. Light you're so negative.

The first time, she had brushed it off. Light was yelling because she had messed something up and the teary eyed girl was stuttering about how sorry she was and fumbling over excuses. She held no fear of him. Light loved her. He wouldn't hurt her.

"Just shut UP!" the teenager roared, and without thinking, pulled his hand back and let it fly at her with most of his strength.

She screeched with shock and pain as he struck her across the face, sending her tumbling to floor, a sobbing mess of apologies and pleading forgiveness and "I love you"s. Light reeled back in surprise himself, then allowed his face to harden as he approached her, building fear inside of the young woman. The boy knelt down and pulled the sniveling woman toward him, embracing her.

"I'm sorry…" no he wasn't.

"No, I'm sorry Light! You didn't mean it…I-I love you!"

"I love you too, Misa," he was lying.

Make-up was a wonder, wasn't it? A bruise on her jaw, a mark on her collar bone, a scratch near her eye. She began to really appreciate the wonders of foundation. He was angry again. She deserved it though; she had messed up. Hitting the ground expelled the air in her lungs, dirt smearing against her face and hands, tears tracking down her cheeks as she forced herself into a sitting position.

"…Are you okay?" he didn't care.

"Y-yeah…it…didn't hurt," she was not telling the truth.

"I'm sorry," liar.

"It was my fault," delusional.

He grabbed her forearms, gently this time, and brought her to her feet before turning away. She forced her lips into a small, sweet smile and hugged him, carefully so as to not bother her aching body.

"Misa just shut up!"

His sister was being held captive! How could anything NOT be wrong? And this stupid girl had the audacity to ask such a thing?! Fury burned behind his eyes. He should have gotten rid of her when he had the chance. Now it would be too obvious. Besides, he still might need her. Misa had visibly flinched, tears already springing to her eyes. She was bracing herself for the impact…the retaliation. She deserved it though. She had made a mistake.

"Misa…"

She looked at him, relaxing only slightly when he had not yet struck her.

"I'm sorry, Light!"

"I'm sorry, too. It will never happen again."

He was lying.
