Colonel Jack O'Neill stood in the open doorway to Major Carter's lab. She looked up from her computer, sensing his presence. "Sir." She nodded, turning back to her work.
"What'cha doin'?" He walked farther into the room, peering over Sam's shoulder at the computer. The screen was covered in techno babble that was incomprehensible to Jack.
Sam looked up at him. "I'm going over a readout of the 'gate's energy consumption to see if there are any ways that we can cut down on it." She grinned, she was in her element. "You see, we've found that our Stargate draws…. Sir, don't you have mission reports to right?"
Jack made a face, "I'll see you later Carter." He turned away from her look of amusement and walked out the door.
"Bye sir!" she called, letting herself be absorbed into her work again.
Jack walked down the hall to Dr. Daniel Jackson's office and knocked on the door. "Come in!" a voice called from inside the room. Jack opened the door and walked in. Daniel was bent over a rather large musty book.
"What'cha doin'?" Jack looked over Daniel's shoulder, staring at the book he was reading. The pages were covered with incomprehensible words that appeared to be from another language, knowing Daniel, probably a dead one.
"Jack, I know you're just trying to distract yourself from your mission reports," he said without looking up.
Dang. "Can't I take interest in a coworker's, friend's, work without being accused of trying to put something off?" he asked innocently. Daniel looked up at him pointedly. "Right, well, I'll see you later then."
"Bye, Jack!" he called, returning to his book full of dead languages. Jack snorted and walked out of the room, shaking his head.
The infirmary was bustling, several teams had recently returned from missions and people were being checked and mended by various nurses. Doctor Fraiser stood in the middle of the madness, directing people in different directions, like an conductor with an orchestra, keeping thing just on the edge of chaos.
"Wow, you're busy, Janet. So what teams are in here?" Jack asked lightly, looking about the room.
"Jack, I highly doubt that you are in here just to see who is in here. Don't you have mission reports to do?" Janet asked, not hesitating as she bustled around the room.
"How does everyone know about my mission reports?!" he asked incredulously. He followed her around the room.
"It was Sam, she warned us that you might be around, trying to distract yourself." Janet looked at him, smiling.
"When did she do this?"
"She sent a memo."
"But don't memos go to everyone?" Jack asked, confused.
"Yeah…we all know that you don't read your memos Jack." Dr. Fraiser was barely able to hide her laughter.
"Well, then I'm off to write my mission reports and…read my memos." He shot her a sloppy salute and headed for his office.
