Kate frowned when she opened the door to find Gibbs standing there, wet from the rain.

"What are you doing here?" she asked.

He stared at her for a moment before answering. "You told me once that someday I'd be ready to break my rules. But that day hasn't come yet, Kate."

Her bottom lip trembled, and she looked everywhere but right at him. "Then what are you doing here, Gibbs?" she asked, her voice cracking slightly.

He took a step closer and lowered his voice. "I may not be ready to break my rules..." He reached out and gently touched his fingertips to the side of her face. "But I am ready to retire."

Her eyes widened, but she still didn't move. "Which would mean...?"

Gibbs smiled at her – that smile that he only ever gave to her. "Which would mean we wouldn't be breaking any rules."

He'd barely gotten the words out before she'd grabbed his face and kissed him hard. She caught him off-guard and he stumbled backwards, pulling her into the rain with him.

"It's about damn time," she murmured.

He laughed. "Sorry I made you wait so long."

Kate shrugged. "Just means you have a lot of making up to do."

"That I do." He kissed her again, and began backing her into the apartment. "But first things first...there's this tattoo that I've been wondering about for a few years..."
