*chuckles* Another humorous random Merlin drabble! This time Arthur and Uther! Enjoy!
I can just see this happening... =D
Um, this starts in the middle of an argument between Uther and Arthur (of course). I'm not gonna go in depth with it, but I think you'll get the gist.
Oh, and happy Halloween! Expect some late Halloween fics!
Disclaimer: Let me check... *pats pockets* Wait a sec... *turns pockets inside out* Nope, still don't have the rights papers to Merlin.
"They aren't just servants, they're humans! Your people! Their lives aren't worthless! You're supposed to protect them, not ignore them and save yourself, and if you weren't such a clotpole you'd realize that!"
Uther stared at Arthur, looking stuck between shock and anger.
Arthur glared at his father for a second more before he realized what he had just yelled- to his father, the king, no less- and his eyes widened as he clapped his hand over his mouth.
"What did you just call me?" Uther hissed.
Arthur stayed silent. Wow... Merlin really is a stronger influence than I gave him credit for. He thought.
Uther stepped a little closer. "Arthur, what. Did. You. Call. Me?" He demanded, gritting his teeth.
Arthur sighed. "A clotpole... I called you a clotpole." He replied almost inaudibly. Then, his resolve came back, accompanied by his glare.
Uther almost cowered... Almost. Arthur had made him just mad enough- and, loath he admit it, curious enough- to keep up his fierce glare and tone.
"And what, in the name of Camelot, is a clotpole?"
Arthur blinked, losing his aggressive glare and stance. "You know what... I have absolutely no idea."
And that set him off. He started chuckling softly, then loudly, gradually getting to the point where he was doubled over.
Uther stared, thinking his son had finally lost it. But Arthur's laughter was so contagious, he was almost tempted to laugh along.
Suddenly, the door to the throne room burst open and Arthur glanced up through streaming eyes to see his manservant, staring at him from a few feet away with towels in his hands.
"Arthur? What's so funny?"
Said prince straightened up and tried to look serious. "Let's just say you're a stronger influence than I gave you credit for."
He communicated the rest with his eyes, glancing over at the king. Merlin, getting just exactly what had happened seconds before he walked in, snorted in laughter, trying to hold it back.
He should've known it was futile. As Arthur and Merlin glanced at each other, they were both off again, laughing hard enough that tears were streaming down their cheeks and they were close to rolling around laughing.
Uther shook his head in confused amazement and left the room, closing the door behind him.
"Hmph, clotpole. What the heck is a clotpole?!" He murmured incredulously, nonetheless letting an almost imperceptible smile grace his lips as he walked away, still shaking his head.
*Joins Merlin and Arthur in their laughter* Merlin, where did you come from? I told you to stay with Gaius!
Merlin: Hey, I was curious!
TG: Yeah, yeah. *Turns to readers* No really, I had no plan to put Merlin in there. I just had a vague idea for a beginning.
Oh well, I like the way it turned out. Tell me what you think!
