A/N: Since I've gotten back into the groove of writing fanfics and am slowly running out new ideas for stories, I thought I'd try challenges to jumpstart my brain. So I started the The Animal Challenge/Competition
Prompt: Grizzly Bear: Motherhood. Write about any mother in the series.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter.
Arthur opened the door to the small white hospital room that the nurse had taken him to yesterday. He hated to leave last night but visiting hours were over. This morning, he got here as fast as he could, almost splinching himself during his departure.
His eyes fell to the large bouquet of pink roses he had brought in yesterday, their scent masking the sterile one of the room. Next to the bouquet was a tray with the remains of breakfast - an empty glass of pumpkin juice and a plate with bread crumbs. There was a lone window behind the bouquet which was charmed to show the sky outside and bathed the room in sunlight.
But those things paled in comparison to his wife laying in the hospital bed. She looked tired with her red hair sticking out in all directions but he thought never looked more beautiful than now. She seemed to brighten the room just with her smile. She was cooing to their baby and he never saw a more perfect picture. His family.
Going up to the bed, she looked up at him as if just noticing him there. Her baby was her whole world. She never felt this complete. She ran her finger across the sparse layer of red peach fuzz then down his smooth cheek which caused him to wiggle under her touch. So precious. She ignored her exhaustion, just savouring this moment.
The birth was difficult. She had been in labour for hours only to hear that the umbilical cord had somehow wrapped around the baby's neck. She was so afraid, so scared. She looked into her husband's face. He looked pale and green at the same time, and she wasn't sure if it was from the birth or from how strong she was gripping his hand. She just wanted her baby to be safe and healthy, but this was an unforeseen circumstance and the healers had to act fast.
There was a frenzy around her and there was nothing Molly could do. She could feel the pressure and the pain. They had told her to stop pushing so they could possibly unwrap the cord, and through it all, her body was still trying to push the baby out. She had to hold it back, fight herself, to ensure her baby's life.
The healers had pulled through, grabbed the cord gently and pulled from around her baby's neck. With a few more hard pushes, a new Weasley was brought into the world.
Arthur sat in the chair at his wife's bedside and carefully took the infant from her hands. He was so fragile. The baby stirred in his hands during the transfer but soon quieted down. Arthur whispered, "Hey there. I'm your daddy." Molly just looked on smiling.
Arthur looked up at his wife and asked, "Have you thought about a name?"
Molly whispered, staring into her son's face. "I was thinking William, Bill for short."
Arthur held up the infant in front of him, "Bill Weasley, I like it." He kissed his son's forehead, "Hello Bill."
