-1The Pain of the Flame

Golden brown eyes, often warm with love and affection were clouded with anger, resentment and brimming with tears. Pupils sharp as daggers gazed into the past, present and future, seeing everything, knowing everything. And it was with those all seeing eyes that the innocent blond of barely more then 15 looked upon the one she called 'sister'. "I will not let you do it." She screamed, her hand flying of it's own accord to connect with the older girl's cheek. "I will not let you burn Souichiro-sama. I will not let you destroy his soul!"

"Aya what is wrong with you?" The other girl demanded, rubbing her reddening cheek. Her sort purple locks bobbed and shifted with the movement.

"I won't let you! I wont let you kill him like you did onii-chan and Mitsuomi-san. I wont let you." The younger continued to scream.

Blue orbs went wide with disbelief, her own sister had accused her of bringing about their brother's death. Tears formed and slipped down her face, her mouth contorting in anger. "How dare you, how dare you! No one loved our brother as much as I did. I didn't ask to be his light, his flame… I didn't ask for it, and I didn't want it!"

"You burned his wings… he stayed close to you for too long and you burned him. Mitsuomi-san, onii-chan, and now Souichiro-sama… They all loved you and you ate away at their souls. You killed onii-chan using Mitsuomi-san and now you'll kill him using Souichiro-sama. And then, when he goes mad from the heat of your love you'll find another to kill him."

"Stop it Aya, stop it please." Maya pleaded, tears flowing freely down her cheeks and dripping from her chin. "Don't say things like that please."

"I won't let you have him. I can't let you destroy him. He's a good man, and I love him. I won't let you. I won't let you." Aya chanted, her fingers grasping the hilt of the cursed Chokuto-Reiki. "I'll put out your flame. I'll save him from being burned. I'll send you into the dark with onii-chan."

Maya stood helpless, sorrow paralyzing her as she watched the glowing blade slowly slide free of its sheath. 'So this is how it will end,' she mused. 'At the hands of my own sister.'

"Aya!" A frightened, but masculine voice broke he silence between the two sisters, his hand reaching up to take the cursed blade from the younger before she could strike.

Aya blinked, her pupils rounded as she looked upon the gentle features of a young man that had always been there for bother herself and her sister. "Masataka-senpi?" She questioned stupidly. "Masataka-senpi, how did you get the Chokuto-Reiki?"

Breathing a sigh of relief he let his shoulders sag and his head lower. "I'm just glad I found you two in time. Are you all right captain?"

"I'm fine." Maya answered wiping the tears from her eyes. Clearing her throat she straightened, "I need some time alone."

Masataka blinked and stared at her blankly for a moment. "Oh.. Yeah, okay sure. Come on Aya. I'm sure Nagi is ready for lunch."

The blond brightened, a smile gracing her innocent features. "Of course, I could never forget about my Souichiro-sama." She chirped as she padded gracefully toward to open door.

Masataka sighed dejectedly and handed Maya the katana.

Maya nodded a small thank you taking the sword and watched him disappear into the clear fall day. Tears began to flow once again as she clutched the sword to her chest. Falling to her knees, cuddling the sheath and rocking back and forth she sobbed. "Onii-chan… I'm sorry… I didn't want to be your fire. I didn't want to be your light. I just wanted us both to be butterflies. I'm sorry onii-chan… I'm sorry…" She cried, her tears falling upon the sword.
