Instincts. They have their pros and cons.

I ran through the forest away from the accursed cave. I swerved to avoid some large rocks, noting the orange tint of the area signifying it was the afternoon. Suddenly, I saw something standing out against the yellow-brown grass; a purple dress. I ducked behind one of the aforementioned rocks with a stifled yelp, carefully observing the woman.

She was near some crumbly white stone structure, a dunmer with tied-up red brown hair. Thoughts ran in a stream through my head. In seconds, I had identified her as a threat. I shifted into a comfortable crouch, drawing the flimsy wooden bow I'd grabbed recently and stringing a rusty iron-tipped arrow on it.

I aimed carefully, then shot; I missed. I pressed myself against the stone as I heard her gasp and look around. After a few seconds, she seemed over it; I shot again.

This time my aim was somewhat true-I got her in the hip, and ran at her with another arrow strung. She had seen me now, running forward with shrill cries of "Assault!"

As she began to shoot spells at me, I realized a bow may not be the best idea for the current situation. So, jumping to avoid a fireball, I dropped it on the ground and drew my battered iron longsword. I ran at her full tilt, haphazardly slashing away.

In half a minute, it was over-the woman was dead at my feet. I rifled through her pockets to see if there was anything useful-weirdly, all I found was a bloody chunk of venison and two septims.

I paused when I noticed something had appeared on the lower portion of my screen:

Your killing has been observed by unknown forces..

"Um... why?" I asked out loud

I was confused; I'd killed enemies before and nobody seemed to care. Now all of a sudden, someone was watching me?

I unpaused the game and continued to move around, curious but already forgetting. I approached the white structure near the dunmer's corpse-it was a shrine to Kynareth, which I interacted with. I noticed I'd gained some sort of buff, but my interest was already wandering back to the wilderness.

I placed a marker on my map where the shrine was, in case I needed to come back. I was about to head off somewhere when I spotted a bedroll, probably having belonged to the dunmer woman.

'Ah, why the hell not.'

So I let my character sleep for a healthy 12 hours, then immediately woke up to some random guy wearing a black cloak and hood. His name appeared on the screen as Lucien Lachance.

That is how I unwittingly became a member of The Dark Brotherhood. The moral of this story? Don't always assume random people are enemies-they may very well be a completely innocent nonhostile NPC.

So, yeah. This happened. Wrote all of it down on impulse and decided to chuck it on here in case somebody found it funny.
