"Huh? Why do you ask?...Is this about what Miss Hale told you?"

"You know she didn't mean it, right? She just looks like she's having a bad day… And you were kinda, uh, being obnoxious…. "

"I don't know, Bells. We are about to go to high school, we should be more responsible and have actual plans for the future…"

"Edward, we're thirteen…barely even teenagers. It's not like we need to decide on that anytime soon."

"Answer the question, anyway?"

Sigh. "Fine…I want to be a doctor, actually…."

"But?"

"What do you mean 'but'? There's no 'but'!"

"Please. You're my bestfriend, you can't lie to me. Not like you can lie well in the first place." Snort.

"Oh, yeah?"

"So-?"

"Well…I figured if I wanted to be a doctor, I might as well be a really good one, you know?"

"Uh…meaning?"

Sigh. "Meaning I should give my job and my patients all my time. You know, take time with each of them."

"But you always take time. In everything. Even in eating."

"I do not!". Eyes wide.

Eyebrow raised. "I eat lunch with you everyday. Believe me, you take time. Slowly."

"I do not!" Hard poke to the ribs.

"Sloooooowwww…"

"Hmph." Crosses arms.

Snickers. "Okay, now really…I think it's because you get a lot of distractions. I mean, Alice talking a mile a minute to your ear while you eat has got to be distracting."

Shrugs. "Maybe that's the point…."

"What's the point?"

"…Maybe I shouldn't have distractions in the future…"

"You wanna get rid of Alice?"

"No, You idiot, I mean adult kind of distractions. Like children…and husbands…"

"Uh, isn't it a bit too early to think about marrying someone? We're barely past the age when we think kissing can bring cooties."

Laughs. "You're right. Just a thought, anyway…"
