I felt like some TophxKatara for some random reason. Shojo Ai, Fluff.
Now, on with the story~
Katara walked from the camp, angry at Sokka for wasting their rations so carelessly. Toph had gone out to gather food and water, but it had been over a day and she had not returned. Katara walked aimlessly under the campony of the forest, searching for her friend while gathering what she could.
Not long after she left, she found a pronounced figure sprawled across the grass a couple feet from the road. Katara rushed to Toph's side, holding the girl in her hands and shouting her name. "Toph! Toph! Can you hear me? Toph!"
Toph drowsily leaned over and brushed her lips against Katara's, causing the older girl to blush feverishly. "Shut up, Katara…" Toph mumbled before she returned to her previous state.
Katara was in shock and disbelief at the same time. Seemingly unaware of what she had done, Toph rolled over in the waterbender's lap before opening her eyes.
The Earthbender's eyes widened with surprise as she came to her senses. She sat up and brushed herself off regardless. She could feel the ground around her, and she knew Katara sat a few feet away. The waterbender stood up slowly.
"Um… why were you sleeping here, exactly?" She asked nervously, her hands shaking with embarrassment.
"I don't know…" Toph grumbled, her hand on her head. "I ate some of the berries I gathered, but I knew I wouldn't be able to tell what was good and what's not…" Her legs felt week and her head was spinning rapidly, but continued, "and I passed out here… how long was I… gone…" Toph fell to her knees but remained upright.
"You were out for at least a day. Let's get you back to camp and make sure you're all right." Katara said, helping Toph to her feet and back on the trail to the camp.
"Thanks for coming to find me…" Toph said, struggling to keep balance, which was unusual for the unmovable earthbender. Katara quickly aided the girl, slinging her arm around her shoulder.
"I-I'm fine! You don't need to help me walk…" Toph said, but didn't refuse her help. Katara smiled and slowly, but eventually, made her way back to camp. Toph collapsed as she made the final steps to the tent, breathing in short, ragged gasps. She steadied herself only to collapse again onto her bed.
"Sokka! This is your fault!" Katara shouted to her brother. But she smiled, remembering what Toph did in her unconscious state, and yelled once more, "I'll let you off this time, though!" Sokka grinned sheepishly on the other side of the campfire. Aang shrugged and clambered into his tent, with Sokka heading to his.
Katara decided to sleep with Toph for tonight. If her condition worsened, Katara would quickly help her. It was a cold night too, and immediately after the weary girl laid down, Toph snuggled up to her. "Mmmn. Night', Katara…" Toph mumbled in her sleep.
"Night, Toph." Katara breathed, barely audible.

The next morning, Katara awoke content yet drowsy, the events of the previous day lingering in her head. She closed her eyes and noticed Toph stir. The earthbender awoke as she had, and looked upon the sleeping girl. Brushing her hair aside, Toph leaned down to kiss her. As their lips met, Katara opened her eyes. Even a quick motion such as that made Toph realize she was awake and she pulled back almost immediately.
Toph mumbled something in shock and climbed out of the tent. Katara didn't follow her, knowing that if she slept a little longer, Toph might have thought she was still asleep.
But somewhere, deep inside her, that was the last thing Katara wanted.
A/N: Eh. Oneshot fluff. Did This at three in the morning. Sorry it's short, but I'm tired. Very, Very Tired.
