Sabriel and her father were almost at the border of Death into Life when Abhorsen became weak and was swept away by the strong current. She had no time to weep and so jumped into Life she looked around and realised that Kerrigor was very close. He saw her and began to run, one hand with the cup the other with the knife. He smashed into the protective diamond and knocked Touchstone to the ground, here he gurgled and choked on the water. There was now a large hole for Kerrigor to easily slip through; he conjured up some mist to remove his body from sight and then began to run again. Sabriel could here his feet in the water but couldn't see him. Then the mist reached her; quickly she darted to the left, missing his blow by a few inches. Before Kerrigor had another chance to attack she rang Astarael loud and clear, the sound cutting through all the other sounds in the place. They ran, extremely fast for being in water; both of them willing them selves not to be washed away by the cold waters of Death. They made it to the stairs ran up them then towards the West Yard, where as Abhorsen had foretold there was a Paperwing.
