Sasuke stood silently in the dark shadows of a tall tree. The moon was barely a sliver in the sky and he knew that he was invisible to all but the most observant of people. He kept his breath slow and even and listened carefully to everything that surrounded him.
A breeze blew past and clouds drifted across the tiny bit of moon. He stayed perfectly still and cast his hearing beneath the stirring leaves.
There.
Quick footsteps hurrying to some unknown destination. It was a woman wearing heels.
He tilted his head back the slightest bit and drew in a long breath. A sweet scent of a strong perfume drifted to him. It was hers. He recognized it. Of course he did. He would never forget that scent. She had worn it for him every day. He had always hated it.
She continued her quick pace and the wind blew the clouds back from the moon. In the tiny shimmer of light he could see her appear around a corner. Smoothly, he placed a hand into the pouch at his waist and withdrew a kunai. He kept it behind him, so that the silver light would not shine off its edge and give him away to his prey.
She came closer and he saw that she was in a formal dress. Her hair was done up in an elegant bun and she was wearing make-up. She had a red shawl draped across her shoulders.
When she was close enough, he stepped out from the shadows of his hiding place. She gasped and jerked to a halt, throwing one hand to her chest and another to her waist, where her weapons usually would be. They were not there tonight. Not when she was dressed so.
When she recognized him, she looked relieved and almost a little guilty of having not noticed him.
"Sasuke!" she exclaimed softly, "You scared me."
"Hello, Sakura," he said quietly. He began to take slow steps towards her.
"What are you doing all alone in the dark?" she asked, looking a bit uncomfortable. He didn't answer, merely continued taking his slow steps forward. Another breeze drifted past, making her shawl flutter and dance behind her like a spray of blood.
As a cloud slid across the moon, he moved his hand from his back, revealing the kunai he had clutched in his fist. She gasped and took a step back.
"Sasuke! What's going on?!" she questioned shrilly. He again said nothing. The moon shimmered into view.
He reached out his free hand and clamped it down on her wrist as she turned to flee. Sakura screamed and tried to twist out of his grasp.
The moon disappeared. When it shone again, Sasuke was gone. Her glassy eyes reflected the soft light and her red shawl greedily drank her spilt blood.
