AN: This is an idea that popped into my head while watching In the Beginning, not sure what to make of it, but it didn't want to leave me alone until I'd written it. I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: I don't own the characters from Supernatural
Seeing You
John stood at the end of his old street, a place he hadn't been in more than twenty years, and watched the Impala roll to a stop outside their old house. His heart clenched at the familiar sound of the vintage motor. Thirty-eight years and still running strong, he'd been right.
'Trust me this thing's still going to be bad ass when it's forty'
John smiled leaning against an old tree as his boys got out of the car. His eyes slipped from Sam to his eldest, a flash of old memory floated to the surface, a strong face to accompany that familiar voice.
John knew he wouldn't have remembered Dean Van Halen if their first meeting hadn't been so unusual. It had only been that one day, the man's recommendations about the Impala and been dead on. Perhaps that's what kept the memory resurfacing.
As the years had passed John had felt compelled to hand the keys over to Dean. He watched his son grow into a young man and felt like he'd looked into those mature hazel eyes before. It had been a strange moment the first time John had looked at his son as though seeing a stranger, but one that was somehow familiar.
It didn't seem possible, but the day he'd bought the Impala John had looked into the eyes of his son, and didn't even know it.
