Hiccup sat in the cove, alone. The only meaningful sound was the small thump against his head. He evenly tapped his dagger against his head. Allowing to slip occasionally to cut his forehead. He reveled in the fact he could still feel things. He watched his blood disappear into the fabric of his leggings. "I can still bleed." He said sadly.

A small thud, and then another, and finally a voice. "Hiccup." Astrid said. He didn't move to greet her. He continued to tap his head. "Hiccup. You've been out here for a month. Have you been eating right? And the frost is going to set in soon. You'll die out here." That made Hiccup stop.

He smiled to himself. 'I can still smile. That's a surprise.' He thought. The voice behind him became louder as it moved around him resting in front. "Did you hear me, Hiccup? You'll die." Astrid asked softly.

Hiccup pulled his eyes from the blood soaked leggings to look at her. "Good." He whispered. Astrid took step back. See looked at him angrily. She forced him to look at her again, when she placed her hands on his shoulders.

"The village needs you, Hiccup." She said sternly. Her tone lightened "We need the dragon tamer. The dragon master." She knew he hated the titles but she also knew he secretly liked them. Hiccup shook his head.

"No, Astrid, I'm not." He whispered. "Not anymore." He returned to watching his blood drip, this time onto his hand. Astrid shot up, now angry at him.

"Hiccup we need you. You're the only one who can keep them in check. Even the others and myself can keep them in control only half the time." He screamed at him. "And what happened to Toothless wasn't your fault. There was nothing you could do." She returned to her position in front of Hiccup, but when she took her spot the boy's hand shot out and gripped her neck.

"Do not say his name." He growled out. "And you're wrong I could have saved him. It was my fault." He released Astrid from his grip. "I don't care. Dragon aren't interesting anymore. There's nothing left for me."

"Hiccup, I…"

"No, Astrid." Hiccup interrupted. "Please leave. I wish to be left alone. Do not come back." She stood and left him alone. 'I can still fight. Hopefully not for long.'
