It has been a few hours and Carlton's phone rings. His head jerks a little, then he quickly lifts his head. Carlton takes his phone out of his pocket and answers it. I'm laying on my hospital bed; still in a safe, comfortable, and peaceful sleep. Carlton hangs up and puts his phone away then swallows. As he stood up; he stares out into the big, empty, and cold hallway. He walks back to the hospital room; slowly; ever so slowly. He doesn't want to go in, but he enters anyways. As Carlton walks towards my bedside; he keeps his sight on me. He sits in a chair next to me and he grabs my hand softly. Carlton holds my hand while thinking about what happened. Feeling something familiar holding my hand, I start to wake up. My fingers wrap around his hand, as my eyes open. Carlton doesn't notice and is looking down; still holding my hand. I look over at him and I say quietly, "Hey…"

He slowly looks up at me and takes a deep breath. "Marlowe….I'm so sorry I left and-.."

"It's okay."

"And I'm really sorry but..I have to go to work…" he starts to let go of my hand. I tighten my grip and look at him.

"Please don't leave me Carlton.." I start to tear up in the corner of my eyes.

He looks at me in a sad way and stands up. "I can't stay. I'm sorry…" Carlton pulls his hand away and walks out of the hospital room. He closes the door on his way out and starts walking down the hall.

I grab the blanket and I hold onto it tight. [I know I can't make him stay, but why won't he?.. I need him and he walks away...I don't know what to do.] I look around the empty room and take a deep breath. The light shines through the window window and makes its way onto my arm. I look down at my arm and then I put my hand on my stomach.

Carlton gets to the doors and he walk out of the hospital and up to his car. He gets in and buckles up. Carlton drives to the station, but when he gets into the parking lot he stops for a second. Then, he drives back out of the parking lot and drives to a store. Carlton gets out of his car and goes inside.

I close my eyes and try to relax, but it's very hard to. [I wish he was here with me to get through this..i could really use some of his strength right now.] Carlton goes straight to the section he needs and picks them up. He carries them to the check out and pays the cashier. When he's done with that, he walks out to his car and gets in. Carlton sets them down on the empty passenger seat and drives back to the hospital. I can't relax so I turn my head away from the door and towards the window. I stare out the window; thinking of what happened.

Carlton grabs them and walks inside. He walks up to my hospital room and stands in the doorway holding them in front of him. He looks at me and watches me quietly waiting. [I am the most luckiest man in the whole wide world to have the most beautiful wife. I feel so bad that this had to happen..]
