Summary: (Drabble) Frightened, there was only one thing Kagome could think to do…

Where the heck is everybody?

Higurashi Kagome, fresh back from her own time, had gone through hell and high water to finally make her way back to Feudal Japan after a grueling three weeks—and yet the only thing she found to greet her were the trees and shadows. This was, of course, despite the fact that Inuyasha and the others had agreed to meet her at the well.

So much for that.

She heard shuffling in the trees, which made her do double-takes every five seconds, but other than that, no one. She'd learned to ignore the sounds after a while—but ignoring them was out of the question, when she felt something brush against her shoulder. It was only a touch, barely noticeable, but she freaked anyway, and, startled, she yelled the first words that came to her mind.

"SIT BOY!"

With a loud crash, Inuyasha, who had been following behind her the whole time to surprise her, collapsed to the ground with a dog-like yelp. Kagome heard a snarl, and when she saw him, helpless on the ground, he was glaring at her through those huge golden puppy eyes.

"Is that your first reaction to everything!" he demanded angrily, in pain. He hadn't changed at all, Kagome noticed, and as she looked down at him with an innocent smile, she could only scratch her head in embarrassment.

"Sorry 'bout that," she murmured between laughs.

"I don't see what's so damn funny." Inuyasha got to his feet again, brushing himself off, and it was then that Kagome finally noticed Miroku and Sango—both of whom were biting their tongues to keep from laughing.

Sango simply folded her arms, her hiraikotsu at her side as usual, and winked at her in stark approval.

"Good to have you back, Kagome."

A/N: And thus marks my slow venture into the Inuyasha fandom. :) This was the first Inuyasha thing I've ever written, but I hope you guys at least got a little smile out of it.

And happy birthday to my friend Emily! I wrote this for her because she used to be in love wih the show, and though she's not as obsessed with it, I hope she enjoys this anyway.
