(A/N: I haven't forgotten about The Hunger Series. These other little things just keep coming instead. I don't own Hiei, Yukina, or anyone's eyes but my own)

Eyes of Blood

The eyes are what he wakes to, wide and desperate; a deep red sea of searching. Two fires, caught and tamed within the ice, but always burning. A warmth from his home, his blood.

Hiei's hand rises to touch her cheek, smearing streaks of blood from the battle across her pale face. He recoils at the realization of his mistake, his face unarmed and showing surprise.

It's too late. The splash of color trailing from the side of her face and down across her lips is startling. It's all too close to those eyes, the eyes of his sister. Hiei can feel his insides twisting in a pain that feels like regret.

She shouldn't see his pain. She shouldn't wear the blood of her brother's enemies. And she shouldn't look at him with those eyes, past the blood and pain, as if she can see neither.

He's sure that she can see everything that he is, and discover all that he he'll never be.

He slips back down into oblivion in those eyes.
