4 July 20XX
Alice paced back and forth across the floor of her bedroom. It was three in the morning and she still could not get to sleep. All of these thoughts kept coming to her. What was it about this time of year that always seemed to make her feel absolutely terrible? Was it the changing weather? Or perhaps some unexplained illness? Then, it hit her. It was him. Alfred. The boy she had taken care of as if he were her own son. They had their differences now and then, but they managed to get along fairly well most of the time. That is, until that fateful day many years ago. He left her and swore he would never come back; no matter what. As she desperately tried to sleep, she kept hearing something over and over in her head. It was the last thing he had said to her.
"I'm not a little kid anymore, Alice. I need to be on my own. I've grown up. Accept that..."
