"Yamcha's Bad Day"
CHAPTER ONE
"What's wrong, Yamcha?" Puar asked as she floated into the living room. The rest of the so-called Z Fighters had left the room and were assembled outside, enjoying the views of the island and visiting with each other. They had assembled here at Master Roshi's small home to reflect after the funeral of Goku, who had been killed by Cell a few days earlier. The rest of them hadn't come out unscathed, either. Fortunately, Korin had been able to supply a large bag of senzu beans, which had restored them all to health.
"What do you mean?" Yamcha asked.
"I know that everybody's sad about what happened, but this isn't like you at all," Puar said. Sometimes the small cat showed flashes on insight that were remarkable.
Yamcha smiled a small, sad smile. "You remember when we first met him?" he asked.
"Oh, yes!" Puar exclaimed as a wide smile spread across her face. "They were going through the desert, and Goku knocked your tooth out!"
"Those were good days, weren't they?" Yamcha leaned back against the padded back of the couch. "Just you, me, and the desert."
"But then we met Bulma," Puar added, trying to be helpful. "That was nice."
"Yeah, Bulma," Yamcha replied in a lower tone.
Puar floated closer, studying Yamcha's face. "Is that what's going on? Is this because of her and Vegita?"
"Look at me, Puar!" Yamcha said as he jumped to his feet. Startled, Puar floated back to a safe distance. "Back then, I was the strongest person around. Now. Now I can't even fight anymore because I'm not strong enough." His rage spent, Yamcha sagged back down onto the couch.
"But that's a good thing!" Puar said, trying to cheer her friend up. "Now you don't get hurt anymore."
"Yeah. Great." Yamcha looked out the window, where Master Roshi and Gohan were talking. Yamcha watched silently as Bulma walked to the old master with baby Trunks in her arms. "Do you remember when I was playing baseball and had to leave so I could go train with Kami?"
"Yes," Puar said.
"It's like I told you then. I wasn't happy playing because I am a warrior. I'm supposed to be a fighter! Now, well, can you imagine what would have happened if I'd tried to fight Cell? That monster killed Goku, and he was the strongest of us all!" Yamcha looked out the window at Bulma again. "I can't even keep Bulma in love with me," he said softly.
"Well, you were kind of mean to her at times," Puar said.
Yamcha looked over at the little cat, and Puar could see the hurt in his eyes. "You're right," he admitted. Yamcha looked outside again. "I think I'm going away for a while. I'm going back to the desert. I want to see if my old castle's still there."
"Great!" Puar said. "When do we leave?"
"We don't," Yamcha said. "You'll be fine staying here with Master Roshi for a few days. I'll be back soon, and then we can go somewhere together."
"All right," Puar said. Yamcha could tell that she wasn't happy with being left behind.
"Don't worry," Yamcha said, trying to reassure her. "I'll be back soon." Yamcha stepped outside the small pink house and took off into flight before anyone could notice.
Meanwhile, Yamcha's old castle isn't as unoccupied as he thinks.
Yeah, this is short, but things are really going to be picking up soon! Be sure and review this, and let me know what you think. Thanks for reading!
