The greatest prank

All their lives Fred and George were together, from the moment of their birth. They were never able to surprise each other, but managed to always fool everyone else. You see, when they were in the womb, there was only one child, a little baby boy to be named George, but he was unusual, he had massive magical energy.

On the day of his birth he split, in much the same way as a cell, but this time, it was a whole new baby, to come out straight after he was born. This was such a surprise for the expecting parents, but there was a war on, they had been unable to see a MediWitch during the pregnancy. So these two parents, Molly and Arthur named him Fred. It seemed right after the death of Molly's twin brothers; perhaps this was magic's way of making up for it.

These two little boys, Fred and George, lived a happy life, a life full of tricks and pranks. They switched identities with each other every few minutes, always knowing the others thoughts. You see there was a reason that they finished each other's sentences, for they shared the same mind, they heard each other's thoughts, and were never alone.

Their lives went on like this, making people happy, and bringing cheer in a world of growing darkness, until that fateful night, the night of the Battle of Hogwarts. Fred was struck down, dead within seconds, and in that instant, George knew a pain that no other could feel. A part of him was torn away, two arms, two legs, a heart, a face. He fought on, to protect his other siblings, to fight for what was right, always dodging out of the way of curses, thanking a small voice in the back of his mind telling him exactly when to move.

George was found later, sitting against a wall, tears falling down his face, and was brought to the great hall. It was there that he saw his brother's body, his body, a part of him, laying there cold on the floor. He shuffled towards him and held his hands between his own. He said only six words, words he had said a million times before; "looks like we fooled them Freddy".

It was at this moment, that the greatest prank in all of Wizarding history ended, Fred's body glowed orange, becoming light itself and flowed into George, this was pure magic, George's magic. For you see, George had always had a voice in his head, one slightly different to his own, and as a baby, he created a body for this voice, his little brother, Fred.

George looked up from the now empty space in front of him, and said to his family, "don't worry, I'm still here, we just share a body again, isn't that right George?" And from the same mouth, but with a slightly different voice, it was said "Too right it is, o' brother of mine."

Because no one ever knew, no one had ever noticed that George was always Fred, and Fred was always George. Two became one, once more, as the world's greatest prank, came, to an end.
