Another short (and the final of 3 submissions for the night)!
The main basis of this fic was originally intended to be part of The Amber Mystery - for the part where Jessie doesnt know how to tell Buzz her true feelings. I wrote it a long time ago, but it was cut and reworked because I didnt like it enough to include it there. Looking back over the snippets of fic and general writings I keep on file, I found it again, and decided to make it into a one shot, and I'm quite pleased with how it's turned out. :)
Oh, and I actually own a piece of jewellery like the one described. I think it would be a cute gift for Jessie. :)
Jessie pulled up her sleeve and looked down at her wrist, fingering the silver metal that wrapped around it so snugly. It had been her first Valentine's Day since arriving in Bonnie's room, and for it she had been surprised to find Buzz approaching her bashfully that morning with his hands clasped behind his back and a smile on his face.
It had turned out that he had found the star ring inside a box of assorted items that had been sitting on Bonnie's shelf. He gave no reason for looking in said box, and Jessie didn't think to ask. Instead she'd allowed him to slip the ring gently over her wrist. She remembered swallowing as he did so, the gesture feeling alien to her, almost like he was slipping the ring over her finger. She pushed the thought away and contemplated her new 'bracelet' before releasing the material of her sleeve, recovering it.
The problem was, although it had been an amazing thought on his part, she'd completely forgotten about Valentine's Day existing. She'd never had to worry about it, and she'd been too shy the past decade to even contemplate doing anything for Buzz. And now she had the dilemma of coming up with something at extremely short notice.
So she was now to be found on the desk, still deep in thought, when a soft lick on her cheek made her look around. Bullseye stood to the side of her, whinnying softly as she petted his muzzle.
"I wish I knew what to get Buzz for Valentine's Day." She voiced the concern aloud, and Bullseye nudged her fondly. "I can't believe I forgot. He got me something so lovely, and I need to let him know I feel the same about him."
Bullseye nudged his mistress at her words, and trotted off. Curious, Jessie looked after the horse as he disappeared. She sighed, turning back to her thoughts, until something dropped into her lap. Looking up, she realised Bullseye had returned, and when she looked down at her lap, she recognised the object as a paintbrush from Bonnie's art set. The idea flooded Jessie's brain immediately, and she leapt up to hug the horse fiercely.
"Thanks, Bullseye," she whispered into his mane appreciatively.
It was a happier Jessie who pounced on Buzz during his game of marbles with Dolly. "Hey Buzz," she giggled, "Come see what I did!"
Letting Dolly know he'd be back shortly, Buzz followed Jessie, who led him up to the desk. Lying across the middle of the desk was a sheet of Bonnie's art paper, and on the paper, in red paint, were the words 'Jessie and Buzz' with a large red heart around the two names.
While Buzz was busy taking it in, Jessie grabbed him in a bear hug. He returned her hug as she murmured, "Happy Valentine's Day, Buzz." Sometimes the simplest gestures were the best, the cowgirl thought happily, as her boyfriend pulled back to plant a kiss on her lips.
