What if Tam can channel, and he's promised to teach Rand both the sword and the One Power?
Author's Note: It's my first fic, and I would just like to know what people think so far (from this short beginning), oh and just so you know this is written in UK English, not US English (Just thought it was worth a mention)
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legends fade to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.
The wind brushed across the Two Rivers, into the tangled forest called the Westwood, and beat at two men practicing the sword on a large patch of flat ground. The wind carried a harsh chill, as if it would rather bear snow than the spring it should have a month past. Gusts slammed Rand al'Thor's cloak to his back, whipping the cloak into his legs then streaming out behind him. He suddenly wished he had worn another shirt, but his father almost seeming to read his mind muttered "Remember the void lad" as he quickly launched an attack at his son, though Rand seemed to easily deflect the attack and launched an attack of his own, into The Boar Rushes Down The Mountain using his superior height to rain down attacks from overhead at his father with his wooden practice sword. It took all of Tam's energy just to keep his son's sword from beating his defences. Suddenly Rand moved into the River Undercuts the Bank, Rand moving onto his left knee hitting his Tam's leg and making him collapse onto the floor in a heap with Rand standing over him with his practice sword hovering over his father's heart and a grin marked upon his face, he quickly offered his hand to Tam and helped him onto his feet.
"Well done lad, perhaps you could be a true blademaster one day, you certainly seem better than me!" He said light-heartedly, though with a hint of sadness on his face after the realisation that he didn't have much to teach his son in terms of the sword. "Now lad, Cat Crosses the Courtyard, quickly now." Rand quickly jumped into position and started to move, although Tam barked orders as soon as he saw his son start to fail in a certain area of the form.
"Let your body hang relaxed with your spine straight, as though you're suspended by a string." Rand did exactly this, making appear effortless, but suddenly he stopped as he saw a dark character in the distance on a horse appearing to be unaffected by the icy chill of the wind which appeared to bite at Rand as he suddenly noticed it again.
"Father.. C-can we practice the One Power now? After all, you did say you would teach me soon and I feel like today.." He shuddered violently ".. Today I think it would be best."
