okay guys...this is a one shot i did for a challege in live journal and the theme is called 'Green Thumb'...i wasnt gonna participate but i got this idea from a dream i had lol ...please read and review

Fruitful teachings

Summary: wakes up to see Kenji trying to plant some radishes

Characters: Kenshin /Kenji/ Kaoru

Moonlight rays made their way through the thin shoji door, bringing light of the new day in the Kamiya dojo. Lazy violet eyes fluttered open to gaze upon the peaceful face of his wife lying peacefully next to him. Kenshin Himura sat up and blinked his eyes a couple of times to adjust to the light in the room. He smiled as he saw his wife snuggling in the covers, trying to block the sunlight of her eyes. He gently caressed her smooth cheek before pulling back, afraid that he might wake her up. He changed to his usual pink gi and stepped outside.

The first thing Kenshin did was to check on Kenji, he opened the shoji door only to find an empty room. So he decided to look around the dojo for his mischievous 6 year old son.

Kenshin looked in every room in the dojo but he still wasn't able to find Kenji anyway and he was beginning to worry for his son. He turned to look in the bathhouse, but no Kenji.

"Where did Kenji go? I hope nothing has happened to him" he thought, but his thoughts were distracted when he heard a shuffling noise behind the bathhouse, where Kenshin has planted a vegetable garden a few weeks ago. He turned a corner only to find Kenji kneeling in front of the radish batch.

"Kenji? What are you doing here?" asked Kenshin as he stood behind his son

Kenji looked up and smiled to his dad before answering the given question "I wanted to learn how grow some vegetable like you do"

"But why so early?" asked Kenshin

"I wanted to surprise you and mother when you wake up to a vegetable garden" confessed Kenji

"Do you want me to teach you?" asked Kenshin as he kneeled beside his son

"Yes please" answered Kenji

"Alright…pass me the seeds so we can get started" said Kenshin as he proceeded to teach his son the technique of growing vegetables.

A couple of weeks later.

Kenshin and Kaoru were sitting peacefully on the porch drinking their after noon tea when suddenly.

"Mother, father comes quickly" yelled a very excited 6 year old.

Kenshin and Kaoru got up and followed their son's yell until they arrived in the vegetable garden.

"Look mother, the vegetable that I planted with father came out" squealed Kenji as he ran up to his parents, hands full on freshly picked radishes.

"Good job Kenji, I'm so proud of you" said Kaoru as he kissed Kenji on the check.

"Yes, you did wonderfully for your first time," said Kenshin as he playfully ruffled his sons bushy hair

"Thanks father….will you teach me how to grow other things?" asked Kenji anxiously

"Of course…now why don't you go put those in the kitchen so you could have them for dinner?" answered Kenshin

"Okay" said Kenji as he ran towards the kitchen.

"He's really good when it come to gardening" said Kenshin turning towards Kaoru

"Well…he did have a great teacher…..you do have a green thumb after all" said Kaoru as he leaned forward to kiss her husband
