A.N.: So yesterday's episode (7x17) some people liked it, some people hated it, the fandom is in an uproar over it, I personally loved it. I have noticed that it seems like A LOT of people are pissed off at Dean for leaving Cas behind, the show can't fit in EVERYTHING in an hour, this in my two scents on what happened between Cas taking on Sam's crazy and Sam and Dean leaving. Because if Dean carting around Cas' trenchcoat from one car to another (none of them the Impala, what the hell!) is not proof that he cares about Cas and wouldn't leave him behind with Lucifer unless he had no other choice, I don't know what is. Sorry, rant over. One last thing wasn't it SO badass when Cas smited those demons and they had the montage, I LOVED IT. I missed my nerdy angel. :DThanks as always to all those who read and review.

Disclaimer: Not mine.

He hates hospitals. Everything about them. The smell, the taste of disinfectant in the air, the constant looks of pity, the stark whiteness, he has spent too many nights keeping vigil over his Dad or Sam or Bobby…

Not to mention the fact that in the last two days he has committed not one, but two people that he cares about to into its sterilized walls.

The doctor had said something about his brother along the lines of "miraculous recovery." and Dean stifled a bitter laugh into his fist.

Miraculous…right. He was touched by an angel.

An angel that is now sitting on the edge of the bed, bared foot and blank faced.

"Cas," he starts, unable to voice exactly what he is feeling. "Can you hear me or is it just 24/7 Satan vision in there?" his laugh is dark.

"Why did you? God, why did you do this?" he inquires, unsure if he is questioning the angels' latest act of heroism or his misguided belief that he was doing the right thing that led them here in the first place.

His former friend, current too fucking complicated to work out right now doesn't acknowledge him. Doesn't move or breathe or blink.

Come to think of it, has Cas ever blinked?

"We're going to figure this out. I promise." He coughs to clear his throat and lays a hand on the other man's shoulder.

The contact feels weird, more so when the angel doesn't recognize it.

How far gone is he? What had he taken on?

He pats the shoulder once and then takes his hand back. "You saved Sam. Dude needs like a week of sleep, but…" he breaks off as he watches Cas' face tweak, his lips pulling into a tighter line of anxiety and worry.

He moves his chair so he is directly in his line of vision. "Hey Cas, whatever it is, it isn't real. Tell Lucifer to shove it." He grumbles. "Just hang in there, Sam and I,"

His head jerks up so fast that Dean jumps.

"Cas? Can you hear me?"

"You have to go." He states, his voice a low pained growl.

"What?"

"You must leave. Finish this." He hisses out a breath, face lighting up with a million different emotions. "Please."

"Cas," He jumps again as the angels hand clamps down on his wrist.

"Please." He begs, the madness momentarily gone from his startling blue eyes.

Dean nods curtly. "Yeah, okay. We'll finish off these oozing bastards and then we'll be back for you."

The angel sighs and Dean can see him steadily retreating back into the recesses of his mind.

"Listen to me," he insists, making sure that this is the last thing Cas hears in his lucid state. "We will come back for you."

Not that he has anything to compare it to, but he could swear he sees a flicker of a relieved grin right before his face becomes vacant again.

"Dean, this doesn't feel right. After everything," Sam voices as the exit the hospital. "We can't just leave him here."

He flashes his brother a look.

Like he wants to do this, any of this….

"We don't have any friends. All our friends are dead."

He spares the hospital once last glance before sliding into the driver's seat of the car.

Well, maybe not all of them.
