A Guardsman Battle.

Part One.

Hi, this is my first Warhammer story.

Disclamer: I don't them, I only own a few "cough" 40K armies and a couple of "Another cough" novels. I'm just playing in there world for a while.

Day One.

The order came to hold the township of Midway, the only structures for over 200 km along the only roadway between the two major cities, the shifting ash dunes around them meant that it was the only fast approach for armour and troop movement and the township a natural roadblock and a important military target.

The platoon was dropped off via Valkyrie's and Vendetta's to the south of the town as the Sentinal squadron and Leman Russes landed via dropships.

The flight of Vendetta,s began to circle the town as we began to secure the empty buildings, we begin to slowly find the remains of the townfolks many layed dead fleeing the horror of the sudden attack on then, a few we found died fighting the rebels in their fold, the look of these dead heretics brought curses and prays to our lips as we saw what they did to themselves in the name of their foul "Gods".

A warning on the Vox reminded us to keep alert as a sudden detonation in the city rocked the deathly silence as the damned heretics charged out of cover, their sudden attack of blades and guns took us by surprise, but our ordered reply of las-fire and shotgun rounds reduced their charge to a heap of dead meat, the few survivors began to panic as their faith failed them as they turned and fled our wraith, straight into the Sentinal squadron.

Between our two flanks they died like the animal's they became each death a payment for the death they caused, a pray to the Holy Emperor. We held the sqaure as Father Karler arrived, his bloody Eviscerator showing his holy work, as he prayed for the dying and dead, we searched for any living heretics to give our own judgement upon.

As we moved closer to the towns centre, the search of the buildings began to show more signs of their damned work, the things we say no loyal subject of the Emperor should see, it was decided to burn these buildings as none of us would use them in defence, their very psyche made us sick. Worse came when arrived at the centre of the township and saw the Imperial Shrine, remains of the Priests and the Administratum hung from the walls, trice cursed symbols of chaos painted in blood and skin poxed this holy place.

A silent look between Platoon Commander Harker and Father Karler, and the order was given to the Vendetta's to destroy this once holy place, their Las-cannons reducing the structure to a pile of rubble.

After a final search that found only a couple of heretic's either hiding in fear or acting snipers to our advance, the all clear order was finally given, the gunships began landing in the now clear town square, the sound of demolition charges collapsing buildings and the shouts of sergents as we began to dig in checking fire zones and setting up our booby traps. The Sentinals and Vendetta's began patrols while the scouts movied out into the Ash Dunes.

Now as evening is closing in we have less then a day before the Heretic's motorized force arrives and two days before our own arrive, our advantages, another air drop and the Emperor's will that we will win. As our unit begins to rest I listern to Father Karler's semon on the Vox as the countdown to battle starts.
