A/N: This is a song-fic inspired by Fort Minor's "Where'd You Go". You can listen to it if you want, but you don't need to hear the song to understand the story, and it's got some language in it. Hope you enjoy!
James burst into the foyer as soon as he heard footsteps. "Lily, where the hell have you been?" he screamed.
"I was in LA for a little while longer than I expected, James. It's not a big deal."
James looked at her in shock. "Ten days is a little while longer to you? That's a week in a half. You didn't even bother to call. Sirius, Remus, and I have been worried sick, not to mention Harry. Remember him? Your 13-month year old son?"
Lily replied, "It's for the Order, James, what would you like me to do? I missed you, but I didn't want to make it worse by calling them. They would have missed me more if they had heard my voice."
James yelled, "What kind of a screwed up world do you live in? Lily, we have a baby boy. He's barely one year old. And you think its OK to leave him with me, without his mother?"
Lily walked briskly into the kitchen and started up a pot of coffee. "So, you would rather I come home, and not earn all the overtime I got over the past few days? We aren't rich, James, in case you've forgotten. We need this money."
James said, "He needs his mother. Frankly, I'm sick of you and your career. All I ever hear anymore is, 'Where is Lily tonight?'" he imitated. "I have to make excuses about why you aren't here, and why you basically deserted your husband and child. I'm stuck here waiting every single day for you to come home."
Lily looked at him in disbelief. "Well, how are you helping us, then? How are you making money? Because last time I checked, you aren't the working parent here."
James hollered, "I got a job last week, Sarah! Do you not even remember that? The Order asked me to go to France on a job! I told you as soon as it happened! You are so wrapped up in your own little world that you can't even pay attention to your husband?"
"It's been a long week. I was exhausted. I had three meetings plus a double shift watching over Bathilda that day, I wasn't paying attention to much of anything," Lily excused herself.
James stared at her, anger in his eyes. "Well, you know what? You can be exhausted by yourself. You are due at Bathilda's house next week, right? Well, when you come back I won't be here." With that, he stormed out of the room.
