Hello dolls! This is the first fanfiction I've ever written and put online, so please give it a chance! There really isn't enough good fanfiction of this pairing, so I thought I'd try to fix that! Feel free to give me feedback and opinions on how you think I should go about it! I can't promise I'll listen, but if I like the idea, I will most likely put it in! I'm trying to avoid detailed smut, however, so please don't suggest it! U_U

Jade Harley stood in the middle of the crowded, locker-lined hallway, fumbling through her books, searching for her brand-new schedule that listed the location of her first-period class. Students streamed by her, hardly noticing the wispy girl, hopelessly lost in the winding labyrinth that was her new high school. She finally found her schedule, and squinted at the tiny letters printed in black ink. Room B413. She checked the nearest room number. Room A612. Somehow, she had ended up on the opposite side of the school.

Letting out a small groan of annoyance, Jade stuffed the paper back into her folder and trotted in what she hoped was the direction of her classroom. The halls were nearly empty now, save for a few stragglers. She glanced at a hallway clock. One minute left. She broke into a flat-out run, her feet pounding on the linoleum floor. It was bad enough being a new kid, but being late to class was even worse.

She used to be outgoing, sure, but school life had taken its toll. Her buck-teeth, glasses, and messy hair made her an easy enough target, without the added issue of her impressive medical history. She used to take dangerous paths through the woods near her old house to evade bullies, who sometimes followed her home, jeering and laughing. She stood up for herself at first, but nothing would make them leave. Finally, Jade couldn't take it anymore, and retreated far into herself, not talking to anyone. She hoped moving would give her a fresh start, and tried to ignore the little voice in her head that whispered "Nothing will change. Just who's bullying you."

She dashed around a corner, not paying attention to where she was going. And then-

WHAM!

Jade cried out, her books flying out of her hands and landing on the ground with loud THUDS. The person she ran into- a short guy, only an inch or so taller than herself, with wild, spiky brown hair- swore violently and stumbled back, a grey binder knocking loose from his grip and crashing to the ground, popping open and spilling paper everywhere.

"I'm so sorry!" Jade gasped, scrambling to her feet and running over to him. "are you okay?!"

"Jesus, watch where you're going!" He snapped, wincing as he rubbed his cheek, then beginning to gather the paper into a pile.

"Did I hurt you?!"

"I'm fine! God!"

"are you sure? I'll take you to the nurse if-"

"SHUT UP!"

Jade stopped talking immediately, then bit her lip as she went for her stuff. "Sorry…"

Oh, nice going Karkat. Why can't you talk to people? How hard can it be? He let out an exasperated sigh, then began helping her gather her stuff. "just forget it, ok?" he muttered gruffly, Shoving her things towards her, then getting to his feet and walking away. That's plenty of social interaction for one day.

Well, there you go! I hope it was good. Give me honest reviews please, so I'll know where I can improve! I should update in a few days. :3
