"The Singing towers of Darillium. You brought me here on out first date. Well, my first date" She smiled. They were sitting on a blanket on a cliff a few miles away from the towers but you could still see and hear them perfectly.

"Yes, I did" He tried his best to smile

"And a new suit and hair cut; is it my birthday?" She smiled playfully

"No" he laughed a little

"Is it your birthday?" She cocked an eyebrow "Because I did bring the hand-cuffs"

"No" He laughed a little harder as he held her hand. He looked at it and played with it frying to find the perfect way for their fingers to interlock "I just thought you'd like this"

"I still think we should go back to the younger you and the TARDIS, my mind is still racing" She smiled.

"River, that's against the rules, now can we please just enjoy tonight"

"Alright"

The towers began to sing. It grabbed River's attention. The Doctor couldn't take his eyes off her. This was the last time he would ever see her. He knew what was coming for her, he always did but it was always so far away, he was able to put it out of his mind. It seemed to have crept up on him and it was here all too soon. He was desperately trying to capture every ounce of her in his memory; the one place she would truly never die.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" She looked at the towers in awe

"The most beautiful thing these ancient eyes have ever seen" He was fighting tears.

"I know you're looking at me" She was still smiling

"Good"

The pair sat in silence for a while listening to the towers. Eventually River broke it; "You've been acting odd lately Sweetie; what's wrong?"

"Nothing" There was a lump in his throat; the tears were harder to fight more than ever.

She heard the pain in his voice and turned to him "Sweetie?"

Tears were streaming down his face.

"Sweetie, what's wrong?" She shuffled closer to him and held his face. "Sweetie?"

He tried his best to suck up the tears. He took a deep breath "Fine, everything is fine"

"No, it's not fine, you're crying! Why are you crying?"

His mind raced for an excuse "I sat on something pointy"

"Rule one; The Doctor Lies" She smiled as she wiped tears from his cheeks "Now, what's the matter?"

"I love you, River. With all my hearts and it's only very recently that I've discovered truly how much that really is"

"Shh" She kissed him. When she withdrew she was still smiling "I love you too, you silly old man"

He wrapped his arms around her and held her tighter than he ever had before. Her perfume filled his nose. He tried his best to beat passed it, to smell her skin; she smelled of golden time and ammunition, yet another thing he would lock away in his mind.

"Sweetie?"

"Yes"

"You're hurting me"

"Oh" he quickly let go.

She turned and began to lie against him "You still haven't told me what's wrong"

"I have, I told you nothing is wrong, everything is exactly how it's supposed to be" He kissed the top of her head.

"Alright, I won't pester you anymore. You and your secrets, you'll be the death of me"

The towers were still singing. He decided that now would be the best time to give her a present.

"River"

"Yes, my love?"

"I want you to take this with you" He reached into his top pocket and pulled it out

"Your sonic screwdriver! You never part with that; why are you giving it to me?"

"I'm not giving it to you; I'm lending it to you"

"Ha! Fat chance of you getting it back! I've always wanted one" She laughed, as did he a little.

"But in all seriousness, thank you Sweetie, I'll take exceptional care of it; I'll guard it with my life"

"I know you will" He smiled "Mrs Professor Doctor River Song"

"And don't you forget it" She added

"I won't. I will never forget you River"

And they continued to watch and listen to the towers
