A/N: Inspired by InLoveWithFairyTail's story (That Unrequited Childhood Love) and my own love life. I present to you my latest story and project.
I've known Natsu since I was in junior high. 6th grade to be exact. We were both on the same really old, super smelly, yellow school bus (it's so ugly, sometimes it gives me nightmares). I know most love stories between a guy and a girl who were close friends (whoops, spoiler alert), have the characters know each other since they were 5 years old. Not us.
Ah. Middle school. Where awkward prepubescent teenagers transform and "find themselves." At least that's what my middle school's brochure said. I moved from up north. Away from all my friends. Now here I am at Fiore Middle School. Anyways, Natsu and I started on a rough foot.
"Hey, blondie! Pass up this juice box so they can throw it away in the trash can."
"Gross! I'm not touching your old juice box!"
"I only drank out of the straw! Calm your tits." He glanced down at my (very small) chest. "That seem to be nonexistent."
"Jerk!" I screamed, grabbing the juice box and pouring the little remains over his head. There seemed to be quite a bit left, actually. He sat there, on the old, grey seat, his mouth in the shape of an "O."
Then he smiled. "I like you. I'm Natsu."
"Lucy…" I said, slightly confused. And that's how a beautiful friendship, and tragedy was born.
…..
"Sorry, Minerva. We just aren't right for each other. We're over." I watched from a small distance away as Natsu broke up with Minerva, his first girlfriend, the first of many to come. She was crying, and I felt a little bad for her. But she also a little bit of a bitch.
Natsu spotted me and jogged towards me. "Hey, Luce."
"What happened between you and Minerva?"
"Nothing. She just creates too much drama and I just lost interest in her."
"Oh," was the only thing I said.
"So, to the terribly crappy school bus?
"To the terribly crappy school bus."
At the time, Natsu wasn't "my type" really. He seemed too flirty, playboyish. He had a tendency to act like he was "all mighty Natsu" as he called himself, and I couldn't date someone like that. Such an airhead for a boyfriend, but once he deflates his ego a bit when we get out of school, he's pretty cool.
…..
"Natsu."
"Hmmm…?" He was on his phone. Again. Texting. Someone. Again.
"I'm bored."
"Mmmm…." Was all he said.
"Gah. Who the heck are you texting?" My annoyance was coming out a bit.
"Gray and Loke. Baseball team. You're not my only friend, Lucy. I talk to other people too. You should socialize more."
Ouch. That felt like a slap in the face.
I sighed and rolled off of his bed. I walked out the bedroom door and left to house to "socialize more." He didn't even say bye.
…..
"And then, he blew me off to hang out with his baseball friends! Levyyyyy!" Lo-and-behold. I actually made a new friend. And while I made a friend (one whole friend!), Natsu made dozens. He went to parties every week, while I and Levy (who also was a little shy) stayed in our quiet, antisocial lives.
"Lu-chan. I think you need to calm down. You're being a little possessive. Yes, I agree it was totally jerky and assholeish of him to do that, but maybe you guys need space."
"Space?"
"Yeah! Like…. Get a boyfriend!"
"Mmmmmmm. I don't know… Who would I date?"
"You mentioned before that Sting was cuuuuteee…" Levy was practically singing.
"Yeah but-"
"And I heard from Yukino that he's totally into you!"
Into me? I didn't know it was possible for boys to be "into me." What's happening to the world?
"So…?"
"Fine."
Levy squealed and before she could go on ranting about weddings and stuff, I promptly hung up.
If only I knew what I had gotten myself into.
