The Value of Being Sold
Chapter 1:
Life wasn't fair. It just wasn't.
This was what Hermione thought as she faced the order. A field of faces, some somber, some crying, some angry, some determined. She tried to tune back into what Kingsley was saying.
"I'm sorry Miss Granger but it's the only way."
She faintly heard Ron exclaim angrily "that's f***ing insane, you can't just sell her to the death eaters. They're going to kill her and you know it!" Hermione grimaced at the harsh statement. She didn't understand it, that was for sure, but she didn't utter a sound, just stood there, as if she were a statue. A statue made of glass.
Kingsley's expression softened, "I know it must seem impractical and scary, but this is the only way. Voldemort has promised to release all 74 of our prisoners and lay off attacking muggles in exchange for Miss Granger. Whether this is true or not, if Miss Granger manages to convince them that she is angry that we sent her, and they trust her, then it would be very helpful as we would have a new spy in their ranks."
Hermione couldn't argue with that logic. She knew that out of every person in the order, she had the most chance in gaining trust from the Dark Lord. Nor did she ignore the fact that the plan was very strategic and if Voldemort wasn't lying, then it would be invaluable.
She snapped out of her reverie, "I'll do it". 20 pairs of eyes all whipped towards her in shock. Even Kingsley doubted that she would accept the mission. "Kingsley is right; this is a really good chance for us to finally gain the upper hand. I am aware of the risks but I want to do this."
Harry came up to her with a worried expression in his eyes, "Mione, you don't need to go. We can send an experienced auror and let him do it." Hermione's expression turned gentle, "Harry, it has to be me, and you know it." And with that, she followed Kingsley out of the room, towards her fate.
