A young pegasus filly named Derpy Hooves flew carelessly around the puffy white clouds in the sky surrounding Ponyville. A worried pegasus mare was behind her, trying to keep up with the happy little pony. She flew up to Derpy.
"Now careful Derpy. You just learned to fly less than a week ago. You don't want to cause any damage." She said.
"It's ok mommy." Derpy replied to her cautious mother. "I'm just so excited that we get to visit daddy at his work today."
"Yes dear, but we have to be careful. Being a weather pony is hard work and we don't want to interfere with anything too important."
"Okey dokie mommy." Derpy said as she accidentally bumped into a cloud. Her eyes being derped always made her have bad vision.
A little while later, Derpy and her mom were almost at the weather factory in Cloudsdale. Derpy saw the factory in the distance. It was so big and had a lot of machines and clouds around it. There were a bunch of pegasus ponies flying near and around it. Derpy's mom turned to her daughter.
"Come on Derp-"
Before she could finish, the worst possible thing happened. Something was coming out of the factory. Something bad. It was an explosion. The factory exploded.
Derpy cluelessly pointed to the factory.
"What's happening mommy?" the grey filly asked.
Derpy's mom saw the smoke come closer. She grabbed Derpy and pulled her down behind a cloud. Derpy looked above the cloud to see the chaos of the explosion again. That wasn't the only thing she saw though.
She saw an earth pony. A rare sight in Cloudsdale. He was a light brown colt with a dark brown mane. His cutie mark was an hourglass. He hopped off the clouds and started to fall out of the sky. Derpy saw an almost blinding flash, and then he was gone. It all happened so quickly. Derpy's mother pulled her down under the cloud again.
Derpy was confused. There were many questions on her mind. What was happening? Who was that colt? But she was mostly worried about her father.
"Mommy? Are we gonna see daddy later?" The derp-eyed filly looked up at her mom with something that could resemble hope, if they had any.
Her mom had tears in her eyes. She was fighting herself not to let them out, but she was losing.
"I don't know Derpy." A single tear fell from her eye. It was the first of what seemed like millions. She repeated her answer to her daughter and pulled her into an embrace. "I don't know."
Derpy never forgot the day her father died. She never forgot the brown shaded earth pony either. He came into her mind almost every day, making her wonder who he was, and why he was there, or did he have anything to do with the bombing. But she would probably never find out the truth about the colt in the clouds.
